Dear <<First Name>>
Welcome to the latest e-newsletter from Transforming the Trent Valley.

There’s been lots going on behind the scenes at the Transforming the Trent Valley office since our last e-newsletter with the team continuing to develop their projects alongside our partners, stakeholders and the local community. More details of some of work can be found below.

We have also welcomed a new member to the team. Melanie Sanders will take over the reins from Victoria Bunter (Living Floodplains Officer) who is now on maternity leave.

Transforming the Trent Valley website goes live!

Following the completion of our re-branding that we revealed in our last e-newsletter (#3), the launch our new website soon followed. So on the 6 November, we finally pressed the button to go-live!

The new website will allow us to keep the local community, our partners and supporters up-to-date with all the latest developments across the scheme area.

If you would like to find out more about the Transforming the Trent Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme and keep up to date with our latest news, events and developments, please visit our website: www.thetrentvalley.org.uk

Rod on the Radio

Rod Whiteman (Cultural Heritage Officer), made his Transforming the Trent Valley radio debut on 26 November to talk about the Pillboxes that form what is known as the 'stop line' which runs along the length of the River Trent and Dove. He featured several times throughout BBC Radio Derby's breakfast show with Ian Skye.

If you would like to hear what Rod had to say, visit BBC Sounds and scroll to 24 minutes for the first clip. This episode is available until Tuesday 17th December 2019.

Celebrating 25 Years of the National Lottery

To celebrate the National Lottery’s 25th Anniversary we invited the local community to pop in to our Rugeley Office on the 26 November and have a chat and a cuppa whilst finding out more about the scheme and the various projects we have planned over the next few years.

The Defence of Britain; a Battle that Never Happened
On the evening of the 26th, Rod Whiteman (Cultural Heritage Officer) delivered an enjoyable and informative talk about the pillboxes of the Trent Valley, and how they and the community stood ready to defend this land if invasion came.

Rugeley Childhood Memories of WW2
We also hosted a 'Meet the Interviewees' event for the Rugeley Childhood Memories of WW2' project, as part of the National Lottery's 25th birthday celebrations. It was lovely to have the opportunity to chat to the participants about their memories of Rugeley in times gone by, but also to talk about the new and exciting opportunities offered by Transforming the Trent Valley!

Community Grants Scheme

Thanks to our funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we can provide grants of up to £2000 to constituted community groups who want to run a project in the Transforming the Trent Valley area.

Support Staffordshire is the lead partner for this project, and can provide training and support to acquire all the necessary policies and procedures you may need in order to apply.

The grant will run until 2022, and there are two deadlines per year: 25 February and 25 August. All applications are reviewed by an independent volunteer grant panel, who approve or decline applications.

Do give me a call if you would like to talk through any ideas you have for a grant application. I can also provide support to write the application.

Nicola

Seeking Volunteer History Rangers

We are currently recruiting volunteer History Rangers who will help to check on the health of our historic features across the Trent Valley Landscape. Each volunteer will be given training and resources to carry out condition surveys on a broad range of features from prehistoric sites to Second World War pillboxes. Our volunteer History Rangers have already discovered a previously unrecorded pillbox.

For more information, please contact Rod Whiteman, Cultural Heritage Officer. Email rod.whiteman@supportstaffordshire.org.uk or call 07496 271506.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

As we all look forward to a well-earned winter break, everyone from the Transforming the Trent Valley team would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
