Preparing for 2020 and Networking Mini-Course
I gave a recent webinar to industry colleagues on preparing for 2020, and my advice that resonated most was this:
Forgive yourself for any mistakes that you made in 2019.
Apologize, rectify or otherwise fix what you did wrong, if you can and it is appropriate, but by all means forgive yourself.
If you carry these mistakes with you into 2020, it will not serve you or anyone else. Create a fresh start.
Once you have forgiven yourself, you can take a clean look at the high-level changes you wish to make in the New Year and get to work on getting in gear.
One of the best ways to do that is to get it all out on the page, whether it's in a notebook (that you keep to yourself!) or on large poster-sized sheets you affix to the wall (available at any office supply store).
You can do the same thing with other challenges you faced in 2019. Get them out on the page rather than keeping them bottled up, so they no longer have a hold over you.
Feel free to ceremoniously toss them out or cast them aside, if it helps!
And if you want to take it a step further - as I often do with clients - once you have all of your mistakes, fears, weaknesses or other angst on the page, take a new blank sheet or two to explore how you can move past them and build the career and life you wish to have going forward.
