GME Services & Well-Being Tools
Well-Being services that offer help to residents are described on the GME Resident Well Being Website. They include the ReST program (streamlined in July 2019), Blue Cross Blue Shield TeleDoc, UB Employee Assistance Program (EAP), the Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine (COEM), and a new resource that shares information on primary care physician options for residents and their families.
Resources and self-help tools are now available on the GME Resident Well-Being Resources and Self Assessment website. Please check them out and share them with your colleagues.
Explore the ACGME’s impressive compilation of Tools and Resources for Resident and Faculty Member Well-Being to prepare yourself to identify, address & assist a colleague in crisis.  Additional resource topics include burnout, well-being, and coping with tragedy.

Research Award
The Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender offers grants to UB faculty (residents and fellows – you’re faculty!) to support research and/or curriculum development that exemplifies high quality, innovative scholarship related to women and gender. The Institute is particularly interested in supporting projects that are collaborative and/or interdisciplinary. Submission deadline is December 2, 2019. Click here for application information.

Telemedicine services for residents, fellows, and family members
TeleDoc is a service available to all residents, fellows, and family members covered through your health insurance. Learn more about how this benefit works and how to access it by visiting the GME Wellbeing Resources webpage. You can also read an AAMC article on physician perspectives about telepsychiatry – scroll halfway through for some patient-reported benefits, which included: easier to attend, saved time, allowed them to get mental health care sooner, and removed stigma.

Curriculum Guiding Principles Workshop
Please join us on Friday, December 13th  from 12:00 – 2:30 PM for a Guiding Principles Workshop in the Messinger Active Learning Center at the Jacobs School of Medicine. These principles will establish a clear philosophy and set of overarching goals that guide the medical education program and the decisions that affect the curriculum.
Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP here by December 1st

Have you ever participated in a “Healer’s Art Course”?
UB Medical School will be offering its first “Healer’s Art Course” pilot this spring for MS1s.  Dr. Dan Sheehan (Medical Curriculum Office) would like to learn from UB interns and residents about what made the course extra special at their medical school.  To share your perspective, contact Dr. Sheehan at (dws9@buffalo.edu) or (716) 829-3632.
Quality Corner

Latest update on Kaleida Health Quality Metrics from Dr. Ken Snyder:

Hello,
As part of our assessment to continually improve quality, we are asking each department to share the attached PowerPoint at their M & M or quality meeting.  We recommend assigning a resident or fellow to review and present the data. The PowerPoint contains system level quality dashboards.  You will also find commentary under each slide to discuss during your respective department meeting.  The quality dashboards were presented at the Chief of Service and Medical Executive Committee (MEC) in October 2019.

The quality organization chart is also included in the event your department has any questions they would like to discuss with another service.

Thank you in advance for your continued commitment to enhance the quality of care and services we provide. If you have any questions please contact Dr. Snyder by email at KSnyder3@KaleidaHealth.org or by phone at 716-598-9163.

Respectfully yours,

Kenneth V. Snyder, M.D., Ph.D.
