The Critter Courier

A place for pet owners to laugh, love and learn!

"Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them."
-John Grogan, Marley and Me-
Good morning, I’m Brady Philips, and I’d like to talk to you for a few minutes about catnip. Actually about catnip and how it’s affected me in my life. I’ll start when I first tried it.
I was scared to death. I was experiencing symptoms that were strange and unfamiliar to me. For instance, I had an unquenchable thirst; my tongue felt like a horseshoe rasp; I lost my vision for a time (because my head was stuck in a paper bag); I had boundless energy; I got up every 15 or 20 minutes all through the night to run around the house and yowl.
I was scared. A man doesn’t like to admit when he’s scared, but I truly was. I wasn’t afraid to die - I knew that was coming to all of us - but what I was afraid of was that this feeling might end, and I really wasn’t interested in that.
So finally at the urging of my family, the ones who love me the most, I went to Critter Sitters. They explained things to me in a language that I understood, and I think the most important thing they said to me was, “Brady, if you want catnip, we're going to give it to you in a safe, controlled environment. And we're going to help you enjoy your catnip ride in a responsible manner.”
And ladies and gentlemen that’s exactly the way it’s been through the years. The closer I paid attention to the instructions of my sitter, the better I felt. Now I’m not perfect and I’ve slipped up and I’ve eaten ice cream and apple pie and I’ve done things I shouldn’t do when on catnip, but I want to tell you when I do catnip under careful supervision, I do feel better. I would encourage all of you to find a sitter that you trust. And understand I’m not doing it without help. I’m surrounded by people who love me, who care for me, and who want me to do better. Now one of the things I’ve learned to do is laugh at myself, kind of loosen up, kind of relax about the whole thing, you know? Catnip’s not the worst thing in the world, you know? So I would encourage you to loosen up. There’s a line in the song: “Forget your troubles / come on get happy / laugh all your cares away.” You know, it’s not a bad idea once in a while, and catnip done properly can help. And if you’ll take the time to plan your catnip ride and find a sitter you trust, I promise you, you’ll have a better trip. See if I’m not right. Thanks for your time. Have a good day.

December Pet Spotlight!

Kita, Tippi and Lucky T.
We always love our walks and visiting with one of the cutest trios in town. These three always greet us  with the warmest welcome. Lucky gives the best kisses, Tippi is always so happy to see her Sitters at the door and Kita has eyes that will melt your heart. They love getting outside for an adventure around the park and putting their sniffers to good use. Paw paws to the pavement! They enjoy all of the attention our Sitters can give but the best part of the visit are those yummy treats and belly rubs :) We always have a lot of fun together and couldn't imagine our days without them!

December Pet Spotlight!

Harley D.
Harley is one of the most lovable kitties we have the pleasure of visiting with. He is 17+ years old! He is loving, affectionate and enjoys having company and play time!  He loves all kinds of cuddles, belly rubs, scratches, treats, and his most favorite thing is his brush. We look forward to him greeting us at the door and escorting us to his pantry of treats while he works his purr box and meows to us like a song.  He's one fantastic feline and we love our time with this handsome boy :)

In Memoriam

Recently, we had to say goodbye to our special friends, Diego Q., Decker S., Max M., Bailey G., Buddy F., Dudley A. and Little Bit P.  Please join us in remembering these sweet babies who have gone over the Rainbow Bridge! It's never easy saying goodbye!

GET THE SCOOP!!  CAT & DOG QUESTIONS PET OWNERS LOVE TO ASK

When my dog or cat pees in the house/outside litter box, is she "getting back at me for being late coming home?

Our companions get anxious when we don't arrive at the expected time, but they're not spiteful. Medical problems may cause a break in house-training, so visit your veterinarian. When a dog or cat eliminates in an unwanted location, it's often related to the length of time they had to wait for access to the backyard (for a dog) or a dirty or inaccessible litter box (for a cat). Changes in health, especially due to aging kidneys, may make it difficult for some animals to "wait" until you come. For those pets, make arrangements for timely access to elimination areas.
