Math-a-Thon Pledges

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Just a reminder that Thanksgiving Dinner is a great time for kids to ask grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc to support Math-a-Thon.  This is our big fund raiser for the year.  Many of you have asked about making a direct donation to KAMPA, and this is the best way to do so.  100% of money raised will go to KAMPA.

Please note that the online donation process has 3 steps:  

(1) Entering pledge information online (embedded Google Form)

(2) Visiting the donation payment page (requires clicking a link to KAMPA's GiveLively page)

(3) Entering your child and donor's name (embedded Google Form) so that we can give the appropriate credit

Use of Funds

Our big push over the past couple of years has been technology.  Due to generous donations from prior generations of parents (including many of you currently reading this newsletter!), every magnet class in grades 3-5 now has a Chromebook for each student.  In grades 1-2, each class has at least a 1:2 ratio of iPad to student.  Very importantly, these devices were requested by teachers, who, over the years, have developed new and wonderful ways to use them to further engage students. 

All second graders are doing robotics and coding (Scratch) in class.  First graders improve problem solving through the use of interactive logic puzzles

Older students use Chromebooks for research on atoms, branches of government, math, native Americans, states of matter, and much more.  They also use the Chromebooks for writing essay and reports, collaborating, and receiving feedback.
