Tips from Drama Rep, Glenn Taylor

Who am I?

Those new to our FAC mailout: my name is Glenn Taylor. My background is in theatre arts and education and I am currently teaching drama at a public junior high in Calgary. Recently re-elected, I am looking forward to working with the FAC to support professional development in and outside our main Alberta economic centers and to continue to advocate for drama education through supporting new curriculum local programs.

Assessment

How do we communicate to students our goals in assessment instruments/rubrics? Depending on grade levels we teach, what proficiency scales do we use? How are our criteria and enabling criteria worded? I’ve included a link to a sample task sheet and rubric for a grade 8 task. I know new curriculum will bring new language but looking at draft k-4 (Music & Dance) there is specific language around performance, but not so explicit in Drama. What language do we use to describe competencies? At our conference 2018, a process of resource sharing was initiated, and I would like to continue that process around ideas for assessment and where specific tasks might fit within our programs of studies at a school level. Please let me know if you would like to contribute to a google site resource sharing page like this one (but much nicer) started at Arts Army conference 2018.

Please use the FAC channels of communication, or email me, to share ideas for professional development. If you have shows you want your community to notice, please drop me a line!!

I have heard that Citadel’s production of Six is a must see in Edmonton before they head out to Broadway! (last show is on the 24th) Lastly, keep watching this space for information on our Lethbridge conference 2020. There will still be opportunities to contribute!!!!

Sincerely,
Glenn Taylor
