State of Our Region - our economy is thriving

Strong economic growth was announced as part of the Sunshine Coast Council's State of Our Region address this week. Mayor Mark Jamieson said our region's economic growth is exceeding national and state averages and that the international broadband submarine cable is expected to further provide the basis for a wide range of new employment options to further boost business confidence and performance.

Make sure you get your business ready for our bright fast data future! In preparation for the submarine cable connection later this month, the landside fibre network has been delivered along with works on the horizontal directional drilling required to facilitate the landing of the cable. Council will soon start the installation phase for the 550km undersea fibre optic cable and then we are full steam ahead for service next year.

From big data to the Big Pineapple! The multi-million-dollar upgrade of the Sunshine Coast’s most iconic tourism attraction is now approved by council. Total value of the development works is projected to be more than $115 million and the master plan will realise 815 jobs during construction and 700 ongoing permanent jobs. This could see increased visitation to 1 million visitors yearly, with more than 500,000 overnight local stays in the region.
