MPP Report ~ November 2019 Issue

From Remembrance Day services to Santa Claus parades, the month of November always proves to be a busy time in our community. Aside from the seasonal hurly-burly, this month I also released a report on local business and I began a social media campaign urging residents to buy locally. The Ontario Finance Minister visited Kanata-Carleton, and there were important economic and health care meetings taking place in the City. So, there is a great deal to report on and I trust you will find this newsletter and the links within it both interesting and informative.

If there is someone you know who would like to receive the newsletter, please have them connect and subscribe by filling out this on-line form. Let me also take this opportunity to mention that if you want to arrange a meeting, or you are part of a community group that would like me to attend an event, please contact my Community Office and make arrangements with my staff. (Office contact info is below - or you can fill out an online form to request a meeting or for me to attend an event.)

Enjoy the many socials leading up to our Christmas holiday break,

As your MPP I was honoured to take part in the Remembrance Day Services in West Carleton and Kanata. It was wonderful to see people of all ages come out to pay tribute to our veterans and to those currently serving in the Canadian Forces. Above, I am talking with two young residents who placed a homemade wreath at the Constance Bay cenotaph. Below, I am with WWII veteran Dr. Roly Armitage, who I was pleased to thank for his service to the country.

On November 20 I released a six-month report updating constituents about the progress being made on the Kanata-Carleton High Tech and Business Initiativea strategic plan to advance the interests of the local high tech sector and business community. View the six-month report here.
Thank you to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade for his on-going support for the Kanata North companies and our local small business community. Comments from the Minister and from the Kanata North Business Association can be read in the release here.

It was a pleasure to have the Ontario Finance Minister visit Kanata North this month. The Minister toured Youi TV and also received a briefing on the latest developments in our local high tech scene by the Kanata North Business Association.
Earlier this month the Minister of Finance provided Ontarians with a fiscal update at Queen's Park. Read more here about the 2019 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review
I was pleased to attend meetings at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce to speak with their Chief Economist and meet with business leaders. We spoke of the importance of the Ontario economy to our country's prosperity. I took the opportunity to raise the significance of the technology sector. Right photo is with Chief Economist Trevin Stratton.
One of the favourite parts of my job is getting to meet and talk with people at the events I attend. Here I am at a ground-breaking ceremony for The Grove, a long-term care facility in Arnprior. This new facility will serve seniors in Arnprior and West Carleton.

I was pleased to announce $52,727 provincial funding for the Kanata Seniors Centre. "This funding will go a long way in helping seniors in Kanata stay active and socially connected, while also preventing social isolation. Seniors Active Living Centres provide a hub for seniors and their families to build positive connections and encourage physical activity.” Read the full media release here.

This month I attended the Ottawa conference: “The Art of the Possible: Creating and Sustaining Transformation in Long Term Care Homes.” It was a pleasure to speak with so many dedicated individuals and seniors' service organizations.
I enjoyed myself at the tea for seniors at the Bridlewood Church of the Nazarene in Kanata South. There was great conversation and lots to enjoy including some wonderful music! What a delightful afternoon.

Contact my office if you wish for me to participate in a community event. I would love to attend if I can work it into my schedule.
Of course, with November comes the annual Santa Claus parades. It is always fun to meet the children along the parade route waiting to see the Jolly Elf. These are great family events in our community.
The Salvation Army and its annual efforts to build Toy Mountain is the featured volunteer organization this week with my Kanata-Carleton Community Volunteer Initiative.. Each week I profile a different volunteer organization. You can read more about how to volunteer for Toy Mountain and dozens of other community efforts on my webpage: Volunteer in Kanata-Carleton.
Through the holiday shopping months of November and December, I ask that you please shop at our local Kanata and West Carleton businesses. Small businesses play a critical role in our economy and in our communities. So, before you click for that on-line purchase, think of the small business owner and employees down the street. This year Shop Local
