Welcome to the Streatham & Marlborough Sweep (SMS), a regular update of club news.

Annual General Meeting

Thank you to the many members who came along on to the AGM and to all those who stood for positions. The minutes are being finalised and will appear on the website in the coming weeks. In the meantime, a list of club officials and captains can be seen here.

The headline news saw the standing down of the outstanding John Greenwood, our Club Chair from 2009 to 2019. He writes...

All,

Its been a privilege and honour to have served the club for the last 10 years as Chairman. Some amazing colleagues and friends along the way taking us to where we are now. You all know who you are I hope you embrace and revel in the success you have helped create.

The members and contributors to this cub are phenomenal. We have a wonderful and highly competent Executive Committee moving forward and I wish every success to our new Chairwoman Karen Klomp. I know you will give her your full support.

May SMCC continue on its upwards trajectory. We are family.

Best,
John

However, we are fortunate to have such a capable replacement willing to take the lead and are very happy to announce our first female Chair, Karen Klomp. She writes...

Dear all,

It's an honour and privilege to be elected as your Chairwoman. I've got some big shoes to fill, and want to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor John Greenwood for everything he's done for the club. During his 10 year reign he's set the club firmly on a path towards a very bright future.

Together with a fantastic group of people on the Executive Committee as well as in non-executive positions, the Captains, and everyone else picking up all those jobs that need to be done to make our club run smoothly, I'm looking forward to continue on this path.

With your help I will work hard to keep the club going in the right direction and build on these accomplishments. And with a growing Junior section, a successful Women's section, a 7th XI for the Senior Men, and the dawn of a new pavilion nearly upon us, the future is most certainly looking good for SMCC.

Yours,
Karen

Senior Winter Nets

Now we’ve all had enough of a break... it’s time to dust off the kit and prepare for the 2020 season with our programme of winter nets.

For the women, it’s much the same format as last year with Sadiq Hassan returning to coach on a Sunday afternoon at Alleyn's School. The cost is £10 (or £5 for concessions) and run every Sunday from 12 January to
29 March. All new members are welcome so please do spread the word to your contacts.

For the men, the format has been tweaked to provide better value and raise the standard following feedback from you, the members. Whilst we have been loathe to split the sessions and divide the men’s section, the weight of numbers at the winter sessions have led to overcrowded nets and little chance to improve. To address this, we are obtaining coaches and will split the sessions as follows:

Sunday Sessions
Every Sunday from 12 January to 22 March
11am to 1pm at Dulwich Prep School.
£10 per session (£5 for concessions)
Audience: those who have represented the 4th XI, 5th XI or 6th XI in 2019 and those playing friendly cricket

Tuesday Sessions
Every Tuesday from 14 January to 24 March
7.30pm to 9.00pm at Dulwich Prep School.
£7.50 per session (£3.75 for concessions) - reflecting the shorter time

Audience: those who have played 1st XI, 2nd XI or 3rd XI in 2019 and older juniors (U15-U18)

We will review success of the new format on a regular basis, adjust where necessary and welcome feedback as we go. Hopefully we’ll be able to use the larger facility at the Kent County Ground in Beckenham to have club-wide training in April but more detail on that closer to the time.

As ever, we expect a number of new faces at all these sessions so please extend your customary warm welcome to any prospective members.

Christmas Wishes

This signs off another fantastic year at Streatham & Marlborough Cricket Club. I wish you all the best for the Christmas period and hope to see you in the new year.
