News from Broadhembury Parish Council

Met Office Warning

Heavy rain is forecast for the next few days and coming after the rainfall last week fields are becoming saturated and run-off onto roads is increasing. There is a large amount of surface water on roads in the Parish at the moment and you can help to reduce this quite easily. If you have a gully near your house just take a moment each day to ensure it is clear of leaves and twigs. This is the worst time of year as a lot of leaves have come down because of the recent frosts and they quickly block the grates of gullies. If you are a regular walker (dogs or children) then take a stick with you and clear any gully that you come across on your walk. You will be surprised at what a difference you can make. If everyone did this the amount of water on our roads would be reduced quite considerably.

If you come across a gully that is blocked even after you clear the surface debris away then the Parish Council may be able to help. Note as clearly as you can the location and phone us on 056 0364 4058 to report it. If possible The Parish Council will try to clear it and if they can’t will contact Devon Highways. If anyone would like to join the group helping to keep the roads clear, please phone the above number.

Lastly, if you see one of us on the road clearing the ditches, please slow down. Being soaked by a passing car is somewhat irritating!
