Global Climate Strike N° 2 + Campaign for a Climate Debate

The next Global Climate Strike is just around the corner with only a few days left until Friday 29th November when we take to the streets in our towns and cities all across the UK. Unlike previous climate strikes, this falls just before what’s being billed as the most important general election in a generation. Let's shine a light on the climate crisis and make sure that this is the UK’s first Climate Election. We can make sure we fire climate to the top of the agenda by sending a huge message on November 29th in our thousands as part of the Global Climate Strike.

Find your nearest strike and be part of the movement

Also, there is a campaign - led by climate charity Possible - for political leaders to debate on climate and nature before the UK Elections to make sure we get the chance to hear how the future prime minister plans to tackle the climate crisis.

Pre-Xmas Call for community project collaborations

The National Lottery's new Climate Action Fund funds place-based community climate action projects across the UK. The Fund has £100 million available for the decade between 2019 and 2029 so could fund several good projects from Scotland too.

The Fund focuses on collaborative projects that are including diversity in their objectives so to encourage Scottish participation in this fund SCCAN organised an online Info and Brainstorm session on the 14th November 2019.

If you would like to join an existing project embryo or suggest your own project check out the listed project ideas from SCCAN members on the SCCAN Members Only page and download our presentation detailing important points to consider when applying for the Fund.

For more help & support you can also email our Funding Team.

Reflections on the Climate Exhibition

The doors of our week-long audiovisual exhibition on how Climate Change affects livelihoods around the world have just closed. The Exhibition entitled "Climate Reflections" and co-organised by the Environmental Justice Foundation and SCCAN in Edinburgh, was received very positively by exhibition goers - if you missed it head over to our Photo Gallery to get an impression of it (the beautiful images in the Gallery are courtesy of Ben Pope and The Welcoming Association).

As a next step, we are planning to travel around Scotland with the Exhibition so please get in touch with Harriet if you would like to have or host Climate Reflections in your town or city.

Funding & Resources

Below are the latest funding and support opportunities:

The Climate Action Fund of the National Lottery will support communities across the UK to take action on climate change. These communities will demonstrate what is possible when people take the lead in tackling climate change while paying attention to inclusion criteria. Funding available is £100 million over 10 years (up to 15 projects funded in this round). Initial ideas to be submitted by 18 December 2019, full applications by Feb 2020. More info on the TNL website and SCCAN Members Only page

The Woodward Charitable Trust now only make grants towards core costs rather than specific projects as they recognise that smaller charities can find these hard to fund. Grants of around £3,000 are available. Next deadline 31st January 2020. More info

The Connect Local Regional Food Fund will support initiatives and projects in Scotland which celebrate and promote locally sourced and produced food and drink, in line with the priorities of Ambition 2030. The fund is for collaborative projects where groups of producers and food & drink businesses benefit from these initiatives and projects are expected to deliver benefits over the long-term. Grants are up to £5,000 for individual businesses, regional and community groups (both rural and urban) and Individuals on behalf of a collaborative group. Deadline for this round 8th December 2019.
