IMPEACH & REMOVE action in Hyannis

Because NOBODY is Above the Law

Day before the House impeachment vote
1-2:00 PM
Central Hyannis location

RSVP here and for more information

The day before the House of Representatives takes a solemn vote to impeach Trump, Cape Cod Indivisible groups and allies will hold a demonstration in Hyannis from 1:00-2:00PM to declare that Nobody Is Above the Law. Join us in a historic nationwide mobilization on the eve of Trump's impeachment vote. As the event will be "rapid response" (i.e., we have no set date at this time), it is important that you register on the MoveOn site to receive updates on late-breaking plans.

The Impeach & Remove event will be a free, visible, family-friendly, public gathering to demonstrate to lawmakers that we, their constituents, support their defense of the Constitution—and that Trump has left us no alternative but to support his impeachment and removal from office. Event organizers are committed to nonviolent, peaceful action. All participants must agree to act lawfully and seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

If your organization would like to join us in promoting this action, please email lowercapeindivisible@gmail.com.

Democrats look to Stacey Abrams as they try to make Georgia a 2020 swing state

Atlanta (CNN)Republicans have held dominion over Georgia's political landscape for decades, dominating state government while, every four years, comfortably collecting its presidential electoral votes.

No Democratic presidential nominee has won a general election here since Bill Clinton did it in 1992. He lost the state during his successful reelection bid in 1996 and Republicans, even as Hillary Clinton narrowed the margin in 2016, haven't felt serious pressure since. Until now.

For the first time in a generation, Democrats have reason to believe that Georgia could be a true swing state in the coming presidential contest

In Georgia, Democrats find turning the state blue is easier to predict than pull off

NORCROSS, Ga. — Four Gwinnett County Democratic Party leaders gathered on living-room couches to hash out how to motivate voters for a runoff election in a few weeks, a Democratic presidential primary in a few months, a regular primary several weeks after that and then the 2020 general election.

But first they had a more pressing priority: In less than a month, Republican state leaders plan to purge the registrations of 330,000 voters who haven’t participated in recent elections — roughly 22,000 of whom are registered in Gwinnett County, many of them likely Democrats. They spent hours debating how best to find these voters and keep them registered, and organizing phone banks, including one ahead of a Democratic debate watch party Wednesday night. Read more here.

A 2019 House Democratic legislative activity report  from Congressman Keating

"Do-Nothing Democrats?" We think not!

While Trump and henchmen decry the "Do-Nothing Democrats," these bleats couldn't be further from truth. According to US Congressman Keating (Massachusetts Congressional District 9), the House has passed numerous forward-looking bills important to the American people, which are D.O.A. in the Mitch (Grim Reaper) McConnell-controlled senate.

Since January 3, 2019, Congressman Keating and House Democrats have passed the following critical pieces of legislation, which Senate President Mitch McConnell refuses to bring up for debate and vote:
  • H.R. 1: For the People Act- sent to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 260 days ago
  • H.R. 8: Bipartisan Background Checks Act- sent to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 267 days ago
  • H.R. 7: Paycheck Fairness Act - sent it to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 239 days ago
  • H.R. 1585: Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act - sent to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 231 days ago
  • H.R. 9: Climate Action Now Act - sent to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 196 days ago
  • H.R. 5: Equality Act - sent to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 188 days ago
  • H.R. 6: The American Dream and Promise Act - sent to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 170 days ago
  • H.R. 582: Raise the Wage Act- sent to Mitch McConnell and the Senate 126 days ago
Roadblocked by Senate president Mitch McConnell, the U.S. Senate has not acted upon a single one of these bills, which demonstrates why your activism to turn the Senate Blue in 2020 is critical to the survival of democracy and the country.

Join us for a Letters to Voters action in Brewster

Monday, December 2 (correction)
2-4:00PM
Brewster Ladies' Library, Lower Level

1822 Main Street, Brewster

This campaign targets not-yet-registered prospective voters in Georgia. By helping under-represented voters register in Georgia, we are working to increase voter registration in this state, which continues to be a target for voter suppression by relentless Republicans.

We will be sending Vote Forward letters to 140 unregistered voters in Georgia. This is one of the easiest things we can do to increase turnout in this critical Swing State. It takes only two minutes and one stamp/letter, and meaningfully increases the odds that the recipient will vote. It's easy, fun, and you're one and done.

If you can, bring a few dollars to help defray LCI  printing, envelopes and postage expenses. This is a concrete action we can all take, no matter where we live, to get unlikely-to-vote fellow citizens to the polls. Refreshments will be served!

To RSVP or if you have questions, email Anne Moore at moorea4924@gmail.com.

If this impeachment process and stonewalling by Senate Republicans has you steaming, take action!

Make calls from home to ensure a fair and open impeachment trial in the senate

Indivisible has launched a new tool--called HubDialer--to pressure U.S. senators to conduct a fair and transparent impeachment trial. With a goal of making 1.1 MILLION calls to build impeachment pressure on the Senate, Indivisible volunteers have already made more than 200,000 calls to help constituents contact senators like John Cornyn, Thom Tillis, and Martha McSally--Trump loyalists and apologists all.

You can volunteer from anywhere, and Indivisible will follow up to ensure you have everything you need to contact voters. This tool turns the energy of thousands of activists, like you, nationwide into specific, targeted calls to persuadable senators. It's absolutely essential that the Senate holds a fair and open impeachment trial that allows for the full array of evidence to be presented and considered -- but Mitch McConnell is the one who gets to set the rules for the trial -- and frankly, we don't trust him to do it fairly.

Safe Communities Act rally, hearing and lobby day at the State House

Help pass one of most important immigrant advocacy bills of the year

Monday, Dec. 2
9:00 AM - Rally
10:00 AM - Hearings
Massachusetts State House
24 Beacon Street, Boston

The Safe Communities Act is one of the most important immigrant advocacy bills in front of the state legislature in 2019.  It would prohibit police entanglement in ICE functions, defund 287(g) agreements, and guarantee due process to non-citizens.

Lobby activities will kick off with a rally outside the State House starting at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security hearing testimony on the Safe Communities Act at 10:00 am. You will have opportunities to lobby legislators at the State House throughout the day.

Other ways you can help:
If you would like more information about the event or about carpooling, contact Betsy Smith at bsmith@eastgate.net or the Cape Cod Coalition for Safe Communities at capesafecomm@gmail.com.
