Training Update

During Semester 2 2019 Wugularr School Community embarked on an intensive governance journey supported by NT COGSO.

Dedicated community members have continued to work in partnership with school staff to formally establish a School Representative Body (School Council).

The establishment of a School Council as an incorporated body under the Education Act 2015 (NT) supports the community to maintain genuine engagement and meaningful partnerships through best practice governance and genuine decision making.

Working together to adopt the model constitution highlighted the vital role families play in their child’s education at Wugularr. Watch the video link below as the School Councils' objectives are confirmed in English and Kriol.

School Council Chair, Kathleen Lane and Principal Stephen Hill signed the Wugularr School Council Constitution on Wednesday 27th November at their Special General Meeting.

The school community now eagerly awaits gazettal as the final step in ensuring decisions continue to be made in the best interests of all students; now, tomorrow and into the future.

Congratulations Wugularr School Council on supporting a strong school, strong community and strong children.

Annual Full Council | Chief Executive, DoE Q&A
At the recent Annual Full Council meeting, affiliates (members) had the opportunity to submit questions for Vicki Baylis, Chief Executive, Department of Education.

As these were only submitted to the Chief Executive just prior to the Full Council Meeting, questions were taken on notice.

Please see below link to view the full list of questions and responses.  In addition, there is also a live recording of the Chief Executive Q&A session which discussed some of the questions live.

School Security Management Update
Update on Motion | Funding for Effective Security Measures to Reduce School Vandalism - 2018

Motion: “That NTCOGSO lobby the Minister of Education, Minister of Infrastructure, Planning & Logistics and Minister of Housing for effective security measures in all schools that can be implemented to reduce the risk of vandalism and break-ins. This needs to be funded by the NT Government not individual school budgets. To facilitate this, we ask that security audits be performed on all schools to get a baseline of what current security measures are in place to ascertain the needs required for each individual school.”

Part of the funding for effective security measures to reduce school vandalism, the DoE announced a School Security Management document suite will be developed, comprising of;
  • School Security Policy
  • School Security Management Plan Development Guidelines
  • School Security Management Plan Template
The documents originally scheduled to be released October 2019, are now anticipated to be available from Term 1, 2020.

Update from DoE: Further delay in the release of the school security management document suite is due to it being combined with the current Emergency Management School Preparedness Policy and Guidelines (similarity in content).
