A note from our President!

Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort. Franklin D. Roosevelt

Hello glass friends-

It’s that time of year to celebrate the beginning of winter and the end of another selling season.  We had another successful Winter Wonders event, and I hope that fall 2019 has been good to you, and for you.  As a writer needs a subject to write, a creative needs to create.  And to create, one often needs an inspiration; some idea, color, shape, or pattern that develops into a feeling that won’t go away until you create something.  I hope something this holiday season gives you that feeling; the feeling of inspiration like you have never experienced before.

Please join the guild as we celebrate the holiday season with creative friends and all things glass at Kim Meray’s home on Sunday, December 8th, 2019 from 2-5 for desserts and coffee. Please bring a dessert to share with your fellow guild members.

Kim’s address is:

10820 Balfour Ave, Allen Park                                                                          And her phone number, if needed is: 313-363-9213

This year we are trying something a little different, an ornament exchange.  Please bring a wrapped ornament, created by you, to exchange. It can be made from glass beads, blown glass globes, a festively decorated holiday animal bead, or any inspired glassy creation.  We will do an exchange for all who wish to participate.

Also, our friend Cyndy Gohsman has been pounding the pavement, knocking on doors, and emailing our vendors and friends to collect some wonderful items for our annual silent auction!  Please remember to bring some $$$ so you can outbid your friends!

Our first meeting of 2020 will be held January 12th, at 1 pm at Stoney Creek Beads in Ypsilanti.  We will have a fun project that Cyndy and Kim West will put together,

It will be a busy meeting as we will be reviewing the calendar for the year,  discussing the potential upcoming shows - Bead Bonanza, Bead and Button, and Winter Wonders; and also talking about any additional planned activities- including the Jerri Warhaftig class in June , a fall (September/October retreat), and pop-up workshop/crafting sessions throughout the year.

Did you know that Cindi Brunell was chosen as the Commemorative Bead Artist for the 2020 Bead and Button show?  Make sure to congratulate her on this honor when you see her.  The bead is a beautiful blue swirled creation. Congratulations to Cindi!

Registration is now open for the Gathering and Glass Craft and Bead Expo in Las Vegas in late March and April of 2020.  Susan Richards has all the details.  It promises to be a great conference!   Let us know if you are planning on attending. More news to come on this exciting event!

Congratulations go out to Kim Meray who has been elected as Secretary and Pam Kellett as President for the period of 2020 to 2022 for the guild.  The board would like to thank Helena Hatten, and appreciates all the hard work, time and effort she contributed as secretary.  Thanks, Helena!

Wishing you a season filled with merriment. And a joyous start to a new decade; 2020.  I leave you with one thought to ponder as 2019 comes to an end…  What will you create, during this wild and wonderful new decade?

Hope to see you at the holiday party!

Pam Kellett

You can’t use up creativity.  The more you use, the more you have.
