How can you help on Giving Tuesday?

Donate to restore wetlands and native habitat on Wellsprings property.

On October 11th, Long Tom Watershed Council and Wellsprings Friends School hosted a volunteer work day to restore wetlands on Wellsprings property.  A crew of 61 volunteers spent the entire day removing invasive vegetation and excessive saplings as well as debris left behind by transients and campers.  Our long term plan is to integrate the wetlands across our curriculum from science to art to writing to service projects by constructing a boardwalk and outdoor classroom.

Our next step in the restoration is to install a perimeter fence.

The installation of a new fence will:

  • Keep our school a safe place for our students by discouraging transients from camping in the area.
  • Allow for natural restoration of the wetlands.
  • Improve water quality coming off the wetlands.

Here is where we need your help!

A new perimeter fence will cost $10,500.  Funding from the Department of Environmental Quality will cover $2,500 of the expensive and three generous donors have already contributed $3,150 toward the fence installation.  Which means we only need to raise $4,850!  Please consider donating on this Giving Tuesday to an important improvement of our property that will increase student safety and security as well as protect a vital environmental asset.  Any donation you make in any amount will go directly to this project!
