2019, the year in retrospect
With the end of 2019 heading swiftly to a close what better time to look back at our achievements for the year. We'd like to begin by welcoming you to our first ever e-Newsletter! Here, you'll find all our latest news and upcoming events.
In November, Cambridge Library installed new 'Self-Check' machines with the ability to email receipts - never lose your print out again!
We launched our Book Express feature collections and our 'Next Reads' reader advisory service so if you're stuck for what to read next look no further.
The release of our new author talk series 'Cambridge Couch Conversations' saw a range of new and established authors visit our couch including: Peter FitzSimons, Holden Sheppard, Sara Foster, Dervla McTiernan, Bindy Pritchard, Maureen Helen, Lyn Bodycoat, Nathan Hobby and our very own Emily Paull.
And sadly, on the evening of Friday the 6th December 2019 we said farewell to the Happy Tree when the Tuart tree where the Happy Tree family of characters lived, fell down and died. The legend of the Happy Tree will live on though with a special event to be held at the Library in 2020.

Cambridge Couch Conversations featuring Lee Kofman, author of 'Imperfect'

Tuesday 14th Jan 2020 at 10.30 am, Social Space Cambridge Library

By the time she was eleven, Lee Kofman had undergone several major operations on both a defective heart and injuries sustained in a bus accident. In a captivating mix of memoir and cultural critique, Kofman casts a questioning eye on the myths surrounding our conception of physical perfection and what it’s like to live in a body that deviates from the norm. She reveals the subtle ways we are all influenced by the bodies we inhabit, whether our differences are pronounced or noticeable only to ourselves. She talks to people of all shapes, sizes and configurations and takes a hard look at the way media and culture tell us how bodies should and shouldn’t be. Illuminating, confronting and deeply personal,
'Imperfect' challenges us all to consider how we exist in the world and how our bodies shape the people we become.
Book sales and signing will be available thanks to Dymocks Subiaco.
