The Next Monthly Meeting

Monday, Dec. 9th

will be a Christmas Party!

D E T A I L S

We will be meeting in the Brooks Pavilion (upstairs meeting room at the Aiken Center for the Arts). The party starts at 6:30 and ends a couple of hours later. Christmas music will be provided by a violin and cello duo, Laura Tomlin and Chris Connolly.  Members are welcome to bring a guest.

It is a pot luck, if your last name begins with the letters A-P bring a savory dish; Q-Z bring a dessert.

We will be holding a silent auction at this years Christmas Party and are asking members to consider donating an item—a piece of your work, a gift basket… You may want to consider joining together with other AAG members and creating a gift basket for the auction. Please bring your item to The Studio on Laurens above White Rose Eclectics (142 Laurens St SW) by November 30th. We will need to know your name contact info and the value of the item.

Luiza Somodi
is displaying her oil paintings at the Aiken Center for the Arts from December 4 - January 24, 2020. The public is invited to the reception: December 12:  6-8 p.m. at 122 Laurens Street, SW Aiken SC. Luiza says: "We artists are visual story tellers. In this new series of work I strive to portray a positive visual statement of the hope we find in God. I'm thrilled to be an artist because I can create my own imaginary worlds (God inspired). My goal here is to infuse a personal commentary for our existence. My hope is that you can sense the presence of God in my art. If my work inspires you and gives you hope then I feel I succeeded as an artist."
NEWS

Aiken Artist Guild member Catherine Ryder will have her first gallery showing, from now thru December 20

The show is called “Then and Now”

“Then” represents work she completed in the mid 1980’s after graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a BFA. She moved to New York, molded for artists, and took classes from many of them.  She did graduate work in illustration at New York City’s School of Visual Arts.  She sketched people in parks, night clubs, and subways.

“Now” represents her current work, acrylic on canvas, produced in this past year.  Catherine has a renewed interest in art, after many years pursuing careers in belly dance and massage therapy.  She is looking for portrait commissions, especially from those who want to be painted with their favorite animal or bird. Here are samples of her work:

Catherine grew up in Aiken, and has been in the arts all her life.  She has lived in many other places, but returned to her hometown in 2014. Catherine has a deep love for birds and nature.
