Giving Tuesday, our new US-based fund, Gala updates & more!

Dear Friends,

TODAY IS #GIVINGTUESDAY!

Every year, the world marks a global day of giving known as #GivingTuesday. The goal is simple: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. This year, we are excited to participate in this opportunity to ensure that the groundbreaking work being led by our fantastic Research & Inventory team is completed in 2019!

Since April, this team have been unearthing all manner of records and treasures housed at the three branches of the McMillan Memorial Library. Some highlights:

A total of 55,992 books, newspapers, and journals have been catalogued, with this process now complete at the Kaloleni and Eastlands branches!
A total of 11,967 newspapers dating back to 1906 have been catalogued, with plans to digitise these now in the works.
A total of approximately 850 photographs and glass plate negatives capturing key moments in Kenya’s history have now been catalogued and will soon be digitized.

We are KES 250,700 ($2,507) away from our target of KES1M ($10,000).

PRESENTING OUR NEW US-BASED FUND

We are pleased to announce Friends of Book Bunk Trust, our new fund at the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS).

This is a fiscal sponsorship fund, where U.S.-based donors can make tax-deductible contributions to the Book Bunk through our fund at the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS).

Because KBFUS is a public charity (within the meaning of Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) of the IRC), donors may claim the maximum tax benefits allowed by U.S. tax law for their contributions.

COUNTDOWN TO GALA: T - 7 DAYS

Our fundraising gala, A Night at the Library, is now just over a week away! Do you have your ticket yet? We end the year with our annual Jamhuri Day party on 12th December 2019 from 11am to 2pm at the McMillan Memorial Library (Kaloleni Branch) and adjacent Kaloleni Social Hall.
This annual event marks the end of our 2019 events calendar and will feature a host of activities including film screenings, storytelling, arts and crafts and tree planting for children aged 4 to 16 years.

Admission is free and all are welcome!
