Tēnā Koutou Film Bay of Plenty Community, not long to Christmas and our annual party will be on the 3rd December this year.  To be allowed in you must be in a film-related costume!

November has been extra busy for Anton, he showcased the diversity of our Bay of Plenty locations to Netflix
writer Jenji Kohan, Producer Lauren Levine and a couple of Korean producers who all loved what we have on offer in the Bay.
He then headed up to SPADA where he connected with the other Regional Film Offices and had the opportunity to network with people in the film industry. Film Bay of Plenty worked with Baycourt to hold the NZ  IYSFF National Awards night which received a lot of positive feedback both for the films and also for such an amazing event.

Film Bay of Plenty will be on holiday from the 13th Dec to the 13th Jan and then we will be back in action with some exciting projects for 2020.

JENJI KOHAN ARRIVES IN THE BAY OF PLENTY

CEO Anton Steel has had a busy couple of weeks showcasing the best of the Bay of Plenty to Netflix Producer and Show Runner/Creator Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black, Weeds) and Producer Lauren Levine (Bridge to Terabithia). Alongside creating the most streamed TV show of all time, Jenji currently has an exclusive deal to develop projects for Netflix.

Film Bay of Plenty facilitated Jenji to be the keynote speaker at the SPADA Conference in Auckland. Beforehand we took Jenji and Lauren for a quick, action-packed location familiarisation to Taupo, Rotorua, Whakaari and to Tauranga. Jenji and Lauren were blown away with what we have on offer in the Bay of Plenty, the warmth of our people and the diversity of our locations. They especially loved Whakaari and the unique opportunity of being able to stand on top of a live volcano in the middle of the ocean.

We look forward to seeing what opportunities come out of their visit in the future.

SPADA CONFERENCE 2019

SPADA Conference 2019, was an enjoyable and informative event. It deleivered a programme packed with fantatstic speaks, workshops, roundtables and an exclusive NZ Screening of Ian Darling's The Final Quarter.

As a bonus of being part of the event, we were given access to some insights on the film industry in Britain from film director and educator Lord David Puttnam. He was very impressed that we have a Prime Minister so invested in the film industry and sees a lot of positives for New Zealand because of it.
Here is a link so you can also hear what he has to say.

TAURANGA FILM COLLECTIVE

Our first meeting will be in January to discuss how to grow a collective and form a committee, its a chance to bring your ideas to the table and create some direction on where we want the grassroots of film to go in the Bay of Plenty.

If your passion is film and you want to be a part of a like-minded community of creative filmmakers come to:

WHEN: 27th January 2020

POWER GENDER AND NEW STORY STRUCTURES WITH STEPHEN CLEARY

Script-to-Screen are excited to be bringing script guru Stephen Cleary to New Zealand to present a brilliant 2-day workshop in Auckland and Wellington.

Split into single-gender groups, people tell stories differently. Men often tell stories with all-male characters. Women rarely tell stories with all-female characters. Women together tend to maintain a theme across their stories. Men don’t. Women talk less. Men reveal less about themselves.
