Open House: Musings and Photos

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual Open House!

Dear <<First Name>>,

On Saturday Nov. 9th, new and old friends of the Carl Schmitt Foundation drove from far and near to spend the afternoon at the home and studios of painter Carl Schmitt.  It was a splendid afternoon filled with good conversations and a delicious lunch.

My favorite memory from the afternoon was walking down a flight of stairs into the kitchen of the historic home to find a group of visitors deep in discussion around the old dinner table. The visitors, most of whom were artists, were having a stirring conversation about artistic creation and the role of Beauty after reading an essay from Schmitt's personal notebook on the subject. In that room, with the wooden beam ceiling, flagstaff floor and art clad walls, I imagine it would be hard to not have a meaningful conversation.

The afternoon reminded me of the importance of place, and specifically the importance of this place. One of the aims of the Carl Schmitt Foundation is to preserve this small property where the painter lived three decades ago. The property, which houses a gallery, library and  house museum is a testament to the vision of the artist and his family who resided there. The property serves as a reminder of a life lived differently, a life lived beautifully.

Thank you to all who came out for our Open House and to everyone whose generosity allows us to preserve this historic property and the legacy of a man and his family who lived for Beauty.

Warmly,

Andrew
