    Christmas Newsletter

The countdown has begun...
Every year we say ‘we can’t believe it’s Christmas already.’ Well, it really is that time of year again so let’s embrace it and enjoy the good tidings and the holiday spirit in the countdown to Christmas.

They say that Christmas is a time for giving and a time for sharing but for us, thanks to you, our donors,  Christmas is a yearlong event with all that we receive from you.  This brings us to say a humongous thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you have given so generously.  Through your wonderful donations we have been able to generate an income from our shops which we have then passed on to Goedgedacht towards the various programmes that they run in and around Riebeek Kasteel with the children and families in the surrounding communities.

So, a huge thank you to each and every one of you for helping us to help a rural child this year.

We wish you a very blessed Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Nicky and the team

AND THE WINNER IS......
We ran a competition to win a mini Goedgedacht Hamper with olives, olive oil and a fruity salad dressing, in each of our bookshops. These products are available at Pick 'n Pay and Woolworths. We did the draws yesterday and the lucky winners are... Marilyn (pictured above in our Kirstenhof Bookshop), Lisa and Sarah.
Congratulations to all of you.
We hope you enjoy using your new goodies.
Floreat Primary School visit
A group of prefects from Floreat Primary School visited our Mowbray bookshop as their end of year treat. 22 young ladies and gentlemen, aged 12 - 14,  came bursting into the shop with delightful eagerness.  They browsed the shop and each chose books to the value of R150.  Their teacher, Kristi, said that the visit had a three pronged reason: the first is to remind them that leaders are readers, secondly as an opportunity to support an organisation who is doing transformative work in a community beyond their own, and thirdly, a lesson in consumerism as it provided an alternative to buying new books by buying preloved books and in doing so to think differently about how we spend our money wisely.

The learners had juice and biscuits while Janice, our marketing lady, gave a short chat about the programmes that are run by Goedgedacht and what their money goes to support.  They all left with a carrier in hand and a smile on their faces, promising to return with their parents one day.

A huge thank you to all of them for spending the morning with us and brightening our day.
Take a look at our newly painted wall at our Kirstenhof Bookshop.  We absolutely love it.  The colours are so refreshing and the shadow elements really depict who we are and what we do for the rural children.  A huge shout out to Josie Grindrod, Julie Donald and Basil for all their hard work in organizing and painting it for us.
RONDEBOSCH COLLECTION DRIVE IN NOVEMBER
We had an outstanding response to our Collection Drive appeal in Rondebosch in November.  Matthew, our Operations Manager, took in a steady stream of donations during Saturday and Sunday.  We managed to fill the big VW Transporrter, 2 loads in the Kia truck, and the bakkie.  Wow.  You blew us away with your generosity.  Thank you Rondebosch community.  We'll be back next year!
Our staff and volunteers were invited to join in the fun at Goedgedacht's end-of-year Barn Dance and hoedown.  The Goedgedacht choir, line dancers and a slap up feast kept us busy all day.  Needless to say many cowboys could be seen and much fun was had by all.
