NOMINATE AN OUTSTANDING MENTOR FOR EMA

The Excellence in Mentoring Award honors individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to expanding quality mentoring relationships for young people in Iowa through service as a mentor to a young person.

Mentoring programs currently certified by the Iowa Mentoring Partnership may nominate an Iowa mentor who has been mentoring for at least two years.  Qualified nominees possess a compelling mentoring story that illustrates how positive experiences alter the life of a young person for the better. The 2020 awards ceremony will be held at the Capitol on April 21st.

To nominate an outstanding mentor download the documents found here: Excellence in Mentoring Awards Nomination Form. Please read the instructions carefully to submit a strong nomination for an outstanding mentor by January 21, 2020.

#THANKYOUR MENTOR

The IMP engaged in MENTOR's #ThankYourMentor month in November to demonstrate the power of mentoring and inspire more mentors to volunteer. Volunteer Iowa Commissioners shared the impact of their mentors at their November board meeting and on our Facebook page

Commissioners (clockwise from upper left) Leah Rodenberg, Dan Cataldi, Cheri Doane, and Cherian Koshy share that their mentors:
Motivate and inspire me to reach higher
Understand the importance of the next generation to carry on the work
Instilled in me an appreciation of social justice
See what's ahead that I can not and helps navigate a course forward

It's not too late to join the #THANKYOURMENTOR campaign! Share your mentoring story today!

NQMS PROGRAM RECOGNITION

Congratulations to the following programs that completed the self-assessment and review through the National Quality Mentoring System (NQMS) and have received the Step 1: Initiated NQMS Designation Badge.  The Iowa Mentoring Partnership and MENTOR, the National Mentoring Partnership recognize programs who engage in this systematic, structured process to assess youth mentoring programs in alignment with The Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring TM. The NQMS designation badge appears in the program's profile in the Mentoring Connector, the national database of youth mentoring programs. Designated programs receive priority in the Mentoring Connector search query when volunteers seek opportunities to mentor.

Understaffed and Overwhelmed? Learn How Service Enterprise Can Help

A "Service Enterprise" is an organization that effectively leverages volunteers and their skills to meet their social mission. Research shows that organizations operating at this level are able to operate at the same level as their peers with half the median budget. Cohorts across the state are beginning soon with Des Moines area applications due January 6th.
Watch an informational webinar to hear from colleagues as they share how participating in this research-based assessment, training, and coaching process can build the capacity of your organization.
