Hi, everyone,
This bulletin is to share several workshop and tour opportunities in 2020 to photograph in Cuba. I also want to announce that each of the workshops coming in January, February, and March of 2020 will be with my dear friend and tremendous photographer, Ramses Batista! Ramses and I have worked together for nearly 5 years now and we're excited to be working more and more.
We've had many requests about upcoming Cuba tours and workshops, and just last week we added a second Beauty & Grace trip to accommodate additional photographers. Particularly for Beauty & Grace (our trip dedicated to photographing dancers in Cuba), we will keep the groups small (no more than 8).
If you have an interest in photographing in Cuba, these experiences were designed to give you a taste of what life is like for Cubans and for you to make images that reflect the spirit of Cuba and her people. There are three different tours, each its own special, intimate experience.

This image of a father and son fishing late in the afternoon near Trinidad, was one of my favorite from our November 2019 trip.
Experience 1 is our Inside Cuba tour during which we spend time photographing in Havana and then in the beautiful farming regions to the west in Vinales Valley. Weather permitting, we'll be there during the tobacco harvest to witness century's old the farming methods and create portraits of farmers and farm families. All this occurs in the world-renowned Vinales Valley, so there also are ample opportunities for extraordinary landscape photography.
Experience 2 is our Beauty & Grace workshop in which we photograph dancers from a variety of disciplines including ballet, Afro-Cuban, and contemporary. This year we are planning other surprises, possibly Flamenco and Salsa. We added a second workshop to meet demand while keeping our group numbers low.
Experience 3 is our Cuba! Havana, Trinidad, and Points in Between tour. Of all the experiences, this one offers a look at the two very different cities of Havana and Trinidad. As we make our way to Trinidad and back, we'll stop at other towns, marinas, and villages along the way.
If you've ever wanted to visit Cuba, I encourage you to go soon. Whether with me or another photographer, I believe it's important to go soon. It's difficult to know how long travel for US citizens will be permitted. This past year alone there have been a number of changes that affect US citizens travel to Cuba. In April, travel restrictions were put into place, limiting US tourism in Cuba; in June, American cruise ships were barred. Effective December 10, the US is stopping all flights to Cuban cities except Havana, and most recently, the US has restricted the leasing of commercial aircraft to Cuban state-owned airlines. Bottom line, if you want to go, find a way to go soon as options may be limited (or even eliminated) in the future.

On this trip, we'll see the contrast between the two very different cities of Havana and Trinidad, and we'll stop at marinas and small villages where life and culture is very different from life in the cities. It's an opportunity to photograph architecture, portraits, landscapes, and daily life.

Just having completed the 2019 Beauty and Grace workshop in Cuba, I can not say enough positives about the experience. Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that I would have access to photograph 16 Cuban dancers. In my previous excursion to Cuba, I had neither the contacts nor the access. This workshop was superb! After day 1, I kept saying, "I could go home now. I am so happy with what I captured today." By the last day, I was giddy from the experience.
