School Value for Term 4
Whakaute/Respect
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

With only four and a half weeks left of school this year, there is a lot to be done before the last bell rings. Staff are completing their students' final assessments and have all begun the ever-important task of writing the end of year reports. Please have a chat with your child about staying focussed and on task at school as we move into the Christmas and holiday season.

We have seen some fantastic efforts these past few weeks from our students on the athletics track and field. We did very well up at the Kaipara competition with several of our students making it through to the NW competition on Friday. Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who took part.

Several of our students represented our school at the annual ukulele festival held at the Trust Stadium on Saturday. It is always a very happy and fun event with over 1500 students taking part. Thank you to our musicians for doing such a fine job amongst the large crowd.

Room 15 and 16 had the privilege of overnighting at Tawharanui last week. By all accounts, apart from the wet weather that greeted them in the morning, everyone had a good time. A big thank you to all the parents who attended the camp and helped supervise the evening.

We are fortunate to have a very supportive community and several of our parents gave up their Friday night to spend an evening with Room 8 on the backfield. This was the culminating event of a successful Enterprise unit that the class undertook. Thank you to Mrs. Brown for being instrumental in putting it all together.

Thank you to Luca and Maddy for representing our school at the Armistice Day ceremony held at the RSA last week. You did yourselves and the school very proud.

Thank you to the PTA for organising a fantastic Bingo evening for the adults down at the surf club. It was a hilarious evening and good to see everyone having a fun time. This was not meant to be a big fundraiser, however the PTA still managed to raise over $3500 thanks to your support. All is very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Gary Pasfield

Senior Athletics
It was a fabulous hot and humid day for the senior athletics.  The competition was fierce and our high achievers went on to Kaipara last week.  Thank you to all of our parent helpers and to Mr Webber for the fabulous field setup.
Room 8 Overnighter
Last Friday, Room 8 celebrated the conclusion of our young enterprise inquiry in term 3.  We were proud to donate $500 of our earnings to Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust and the Maui and Hectors Dolphin Defenders.  With our remaining money, we indulged in an overnight camp on the school field.  We enjoyed pizza and a visit from Mr Whippy as well as a campfire and party games!  We had such a great time it was difficult to get to sleep!  A huge thank you to the wonderful parents who agreed to sleep out on the field with us!  You were amazing!
Tāwharanui
Four of our Year 5/6 classes had an amazing overnight trip to Tawharanui.  The students participated in Auckland Zoo's Tawharanui Education Programme which gives insight into NZ's environmental challenges and teaches practical conservation-based skills.  This was a fantastic experience and we are super grateful to our parent helpers, teachers, Auckland Zoo and of course Mr James for organising the trip.
Ukulele Festival
Our ukulele group played at the annual festival at Waitakere Stadium on 16 November.  This is always a really fun event, thank you to Mrs Dickinson for all your hard work with the ukulele group this year!
This year the Huapai/Kumeu Santa Parade is on Friday 6th December starting at 6:45pm.  Every year Waimauku school puts in a float and the children can sit on the float to participate.  This year's theme is Rockin’ Good Christmas.  (Christmas with a Rock n Roll theme).  We require children and some parent helpers dressed up (Rock n Roll style ... we want some Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Beatles etc).   If your child would like to be on the float (and for parents that can help), please pick up a Christmas Parade permission form from the office.

We also require helpers to “build” our float.  We will start approximately 2pm on the day – on Tapu Road where the float will start from.  If any parents can assist with painting banners and signs etc beforehand, please contact Claire Arkell 021 773 771.
SUMMER HOLIDAY READING
We are once again offering the chance for Waimauku School students to borrow books from our Library over the Summer holidays.

There is strong evidence to prove that reading gains made during the year can be significantly affected during what is known as the Summer reading slide, so that weeks and sometimes months can be spent at the beginning of the next school year, trying to help students catch up to their reading levels from the previous year.

We are hoping to help prevent this happening and at the same time to make children see that reading can be a fun Summer activity and also to ensure that more of our library collection is in circulation.

Towards the beginning of December your child will be offered a Summer holiday borrowing pass to bring home for you to sign and return to the Library.  They can then issue their books during the last week of school.

Please encourage your children to take part in this fabulous opportunity.

PTA Update
With only 4 weeks to go the end of year is fast approaching. The PTA may seem to be rather quiet at the moment, but we are gearing up to help run the Senior Social at the end of the year, and have set the wheels in motion for 2020.

Golf Day - Save the date!! The annual Waimauku School PTA Golf Day is to be held on the 5th of March 2020 at the Muriwai Golf Club, so start putting together your team of four and block out the date on your calendars. There’ll be awesome prizes and auctions up for grabs, with refreshments and food available on the course and at the clubhouse afterward. For more information or if you would like to register your team early, please contact the PTA on pta@waimauku.school.nz . If you or anyone you know would like to contribute or support the Waimauku School Golf Day in any way please also get in touch.

Our next meeting will be held on the 2nd of December at 10am in the staffroom, all welcome.
