AT to help everyday

A recent story shared on Chatterbox about a parent accidentally finding an app on his Apple watch that was developed for one purpose, realised that his son with autism could use it for another; to modulate his voice.  Stories like this highlight what it can mean for people to have an AT community where they can talk to their peers about everyday challenges and seek input into what AT is available to help them.

In this month’s newsletter we explore AT in everyday life. We cast back to our Tech Tuesday episode with OT Nicole from ILC where she chats about Assistive Touch, a standard accessibility feature that is often unnoticed on iPhones.

AT Chat catches up with the Bolger family who share how they use everyday AT as part of their family life and in supporting both their children with an OT designed sensory diet. We also check back in with Alice O’Sullivan who talks through the AT she uses at home, school and the community.

We hope you enjoy the newsletter and maybe find a piece of AT that can help you to ‘Live, Work, Play’.

Blog Post: Life as a family of four on the autism spectrum

One of the greatest challenges of being a neurodiverse family, living in a neurotypical world, is the differences in responses to sensory stimuli.  Follow this link to read about the AT the Bolger family use to keep their sensory system regulated.
