Sexual Orientation Monitoring Survey

Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) patients can face serious health inequalities. Sexual Orientation Monitoring (the collection of data on patient sexuality with patient consent) helps the NHS understand the health challenges and experiences of LGB people so the NHS can develop plans to improve care for LGB patients. NHS England and NHS Improvement is conducting a survey to understand how the different parts of the NHS are collecting this data. The results will help the NHS sensibly and sensitively collect this data. You can respond as an organisation or individually. Responses can be anonymised. Surveys should be completed by 27/11/19.

Nurses new to general practice?
Employed with your practice less than 12 months?

If so, you can access a fully funded place on the Fundamentals of Nursing course with University of Essex.

Please contact Aileen Stirling for more information for NEE staff or PACT for Suffolk staff

Practices encouraged to use free NHS Jobs advertising to attract nurses

GP practice managers can advertise nursing vacancies through NHS Jobs by using the new ‘bolt-on’ website, which aims to increase the supply of General Practice nurses. Potential applicants can quickly filter to find local roles as a General Practice Nurse, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Nursing Associate and Health Care Support Worker. The site also includes information about General Practice Nursing training and careers. CCGs are encouraged to share the new site with GP practices in their locations.

To advertise on the website job adverts must be uploaded to NHS Jobs, which is free for GP practices. To open an NHS Jobs account, or for technical support, call 01443 443827 or email: nhsbsa.nhsjobsenquiries@nhs.net.

North East Essex practices can advertise all of their vacancies via Essex Primary Care Careers, who will publish them on NHS Jobs and other relevant national job boards and social media on practice’s behalf, without the need for the practice to set up an individual account.
Please email essex.primarycarecareers@nhs.net or phone 01206 918 700 for free recruitment advertising and support.

International Recruitment to posts and Tier 2 Visa Sponsorship
Funding available until end of January 2020.

The local International GP Recruitment (IGPR) Team have been working with practices across the STP over the last 9 months to support practices through the process to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship which in turn enables recruitment of non EEA nationals either through recruiting qualifying GP Registrars or through general vacancy advertisements for clinical roles.

NHSE have now advised that the reimbursement of the sponsorship practice application costs will only be available for applications made prior to the end of January 2020.

We would therefore like to encourage all practices across the STP to take advantage of this offer before it ends as the sponsorship licence lasts for up to 4 years so whilst it may not be required immediately it might be of use in the future.

Reduce length of stay - new e-learning resource

A new e-learning tool called ActNow has been developed for health and care staff to help them prevent delayed transfers of care. The tool can be used by nurses, allied health professionals and care staff to ensure patients have the best outcomes possible following care received in hospital. It includes resources to help staff take prompt practical actions and use every opportunity to ensure patients are cared for in the best place. Please pass them on to relevant colleagues and teams within your organisations. If you would like any further information about Act Now Home First support, please contact emma.self@nhs.net.

There are currently a plethora of GP career development schemes and advice networks e.g. Welcome Back to Work, Locum Service, GP Flex, Future leaders programme, First5s, peer-group support, coaching etc. However, all these different schemes can be confusing and difficult to navigate because they all have different criteria and are not always easy to access.

The service has been set up, so it can deal with individual specific queries and give ongoing support. It will not just give a list of websites. The service is run by Jane Hallinan and Michelle Tomkins and can be access via 01473 350820, info@thegphub.org,  or via social media.

In July we published Putting Health into Place, a series of four publications with learning and innovation from across the programme.
Join this webinar to hear more about Putting Health into Place from those who produced it – including practical insights, tools and learning from the 10 demonstrator sites.

These webinars will provide practical guidance on a range of topics related to the implementation of online consultations, along with guest speakers who have first-hand experience. Each webinar will also provide attendees with an opportunity to ask questions and share their own experience.

Wessex Exchange Model webinar: 28 November 2019 1pm - 2pm

Dr Graham Jackson, Chair of NHS Clinical Commissioners, will be hosting a webinar on the Wessex Exchange Model for workplace exchanges on Wednesday 28 November.
The Wessex Exchange Model for workplace exchanges was developed to try to overcome challenges with fragmented working in both directions across the primary care and secondary care interface – but it would be suited to any integrated care provision and to support the development of PCNs and ICSs.
The scheme focuses on generating ideas locally, and between colleagues, to provide joined-up care for patients. It has been shown to be an effective and enjoyable way to build trust and relationships between professionals and create the time and space to find solutions together. the British Medical Journal has also published analysis and a blog on this.

Latest episode of NHS England’s primary care networks podcast now available – the role of the clinical director

This episode, hosted by Dr William Owen, Clinical Fellow at NHS England, features an interview with Dr Hannah Morgan, Clinical Director at Hayling Island Emsworth PCN, about how she is developing her PCN, her role as clinical director and some initial aims and objectives as the PCN partners begin to work together.
