Are You A "Law" Dog Or A "Grace" Dog?

<<First Name>>,

The message for this Sunday, “Falling Short of God’s Grace,” will conclude the series
“Hold Firm” for this fall. This dynamic series in Hebrews will resume following the Christmas series, “The Cast of Christmas." Be in prayer for me as we embark on the Advent season and the Christmas series beginning December 1. More will come next week about this. To help prepare our hearts for this Sunday, I have enclosed for us an incredible story about law and grace:

Have you ever seen a person with a big dog on a leash and the dog is dragging the person or the person is pulling the dog? That is the way a lot of us are living our Christian lives; we’re living it on a "law" leash. Stop that! Don’t do that! Come here! Read your Bible! Pray! Go to church! There is nothing wrong with those things.  It’s just that a leash is jerking us around.

But have you ever seen a dog walked by its master without a leash and without ever leaving its master? The person walks and the dog walks. The person stops and the dog stops. He doesn’t need a leash because He’s got a good relationship with the dog.

You can always tell the difference between a "grace" dog and a "law" dog when you walk into a house. A law dog has its tail tucked underneath. Its master intimidates it. It’s afraid of its master. It is a miserable dog. But a grace dog’s tail is wagging when its master comes home because there’s a relationship there.

This Sunday, we are going to study about God’s remarkable grace. See you this coming Lord’s Day!

Worship With Us This Sunday!

Join us for worship at First Baptist Church this Sunday, November 24, as Pastor Rick concludes the 2019 portion of our series from the book of Hebrews, Hold Firm. This week's message ("Falling Short of God's Grace") comes from Hebrews 12:14-17. The series will resume in January 2020.

We hope to see you and your family this Sunday morning for Sunday School at 9:30 and worship at 10:45. Music will be led by our praise team and band. Click HERE to preview the service plan.

Community Thanksgiving Service

The Strafford Ministerial Alliance invites you to the annual Community Thanksgiving Service this Sunday, November 24 at 6:00 p.m. at Landmark Church. Pastor Chris Bartholomew of Strafford Church of the Nazarene will be preaching. Bring finger foods to share after the service.

A youth service will be held here at First Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m., with worship led by the ThreeSixTEENS. Pizza will be served. All 7th-12th graders are invited.

December Message Series

Join us on Sunday mornings beginning December 1 for our message series, “The Cast of Christmas.” During the four weeks of Advent leading up to Christmas, we will experience the anticipation of the prophets, the joyful proclamation of the angels, the journey of the shepherds and wise men to honor Him–and discover how all of this fits in with how we prepare and celebrate for Christmas now. Invite unchurched friends and family to join you here this Christmas season!

This Sunday, November 24, we will begin distributing a special “The Cast of Christmas”-themed devotional book for you and your family to use this Christmas season. Make sure to pick up a copy from the Information Desk.

Live Nativity

Churches around the Springfield area will perform a FREE live dramatic presentation of the story of Christ's birth and life Thursday, December 5 through Saturday, December 7 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds Arena. Performances will be at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. each night. Members of our choir will be participating in the nativity choir.

The church bus will be going one of the three nights. Sign up at the Information Desk if you're interested in going. For more information, contact Doris Buckner or Mike Bruton.

Christmas Dinner & Annual Business Meeting

Our annual church-wide Christmas dinner will be held on Sunday, December 8 at 6:00 p.m. The church will provide the meat and drinks. Plan to bring at least one dish per adult/teenage member of your family. No nuts due to food allergies, please. Following the meal, we'll move the worship center for our annual business meeting to vote on the 2020 budget as well as new officers and committees.

Copies of the proposed 2020 budget will be distributed this Sunday, November 24. If you have any questions about the budget, talk with Terry Bruton (church treasurer) or Josh Erisman.
