It’s been a long while, as I’m admittedly having a tough time getting back on the blogging train. The self-help books are not kidding when they say that once you fall out of a habit how hard it is to start up again.

But I did manage to publish a classic Luxe-style 3,000-word post today! It took quite a bit of time, as I went through hundreds of trip photos, narrowed those down to 72, and then to just the ones in the post. We have no travel plans next year yet, but I’ve been seeing people talking about vacation planning on social media, so I thought now might be the time to throw in some inspiration.

I always wished people talked more about how they are able to afford things. I mean, vacation photos are the majority of what you see on social media. You can go to any travel blog post and get plenty of itinerary ideas.

But when it comes to the money part, people are kind of mum. I like seeing how different people prioritize their money, and having a real understanding of what it takes to afford things. I mean, isn’t that how some people get into trouble with money in the first place? They’re shielded from money growing up, have no tangible experience with it, then they don’t know how much it costs to actually maintain the same lifestyle.

Sadly, money is still a taboo thing. But instead of trying to force people to divulge their trip costs, I think a better approach is to try to be the change you want to see. So my travel posts aren’t me trying to brag, but to show how much travel like mine costs, and the things I do in the background to get them to cost way less. After all, you can’t assume everyone’s affording things by being saddled in credit card debt or having a benefactor. The real story is that money is always more nuanced than that.

Besides working on the blog, most of my energy has been wrapped up in the apartment updates. Most of the time my husband thinks I’m sitting on the couch staring at his head, but what I’m really assessing is the kitchen. I never knew that even on a minuscule scale, that making home updates would have such a massive impact on your mental energy. I honestly don’t know how home owners do it! But the kitchen is almost done, except I got thwarted last weekend, because it was too cold to do staining outside. Let’s hope it’s a little bit warmer this weekend, and I can finally wrap this one project up. I’m not going to lie—I’m nervous but also excited to share what I’ve done at the same time!

Also, in the past few weeks, I’ve been shopping for my annual gift guide, and I’m excited to share ideas for every price point! It’s really so fun for me to play editor, so look out for that soon.

I’m also looking for Black Friday deals, because I want to send out my picks if there’s anything good. Let me know if there are any specific stores you want picks from!
