An amazing year of discovery

Hitting the headlines

World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) made the news throughout this year with our discoveries about cancer. We recently revealed that being active can halve your chance of developing prostate cancer. WCRF-funded researchers also found that eating fish can reduce your risk of bowel cancer. And in the field of survivorship, we learnt that living with overweight or obesity during adulthood can lower your chance of surviving after a cancer diagnosis.

Supporting survivors

This year we teamed up with UK chef Ryan Riley to create 15 healthy and delicious recipes specifically for people living with cancer. The meals, including snacks and desserts, help to tackle a common side-effect of cancer treatment: a loss or change in taste. Many cancer patients report losing their appetite as everything tastes bland or metallic.

Where next?

As the science of cancer research evolves, we must address the future challenges in cancer prevention and survival. Our panels of experts are identifying what direction our research should take next: we are investigating whether we should prioritise childhood cancers, cancer subtypes or cancer risk throughout life, among other areas of focus.
