Weekly News
Dear friends,
This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King.
This feast was introduced into the liturgical calendar in 1925 by Pope Pius XI. It was intended to strengthen the faithful in an era when human beings were being oppressed and treated almost like machines in an increasingly industrialised society. This Feast seeks to remind us that however mistreated we may be, it is God in Christ who ultimately reigns over the whole universe and not simply those with money and earthly power.
This Feast always falls on the last Sunday of the Church Year as the following week we begin Advent and a new Church Year dawns. In the English tradition this Sunday is also known as Stir-Up Sunday where the Christmas pudding making begins. Click here to read more about this tradition.
On Sunday after mass we will be learning a few new hymns so please come and join us for half an hour of singing around the piano. Also, our home made produce and Christmas card stall will be open so please bring your purses and shopping bags!
See you on Sunday!
Fr James
