PPA expansion to Pará launches in Belém
Private Sector Partnerships on Amazon Conservation Seminar discussed partnerships for territorial development, value chain and impact investment, as well as marking the official presence of the Partnership Platform for the Amazon in Pará state.
Fifteen new initiatives selected for the PPA Acceleration Program
Selected among 201 applicants, the initiatives that will join the Program in 2020 will be competing for investments of up to R$ 800,000 during a business round in December this year.

Seringô held the first of a series of workshops to train multipliers on good rubber-cutting and sap-drying practices, and how to make handicrafts and bio-jewelry from natural rubber.
Communities release over 51,000 baby turtles in the Amazon
More than 500 people from 45 communities of the Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve and the Médio Juruá Extractive Reserve got together for the release of Amazonian turtle hatchlings, as well as other species of turtles.
Forest Service Chief visits Brazil to engage partnership programs

The trip provided Chief Christiansen and other Forest Service leaders a first-hand look at International Programs activities in Brazil, which includes public lands management, land conversion, and forest-based operations.
Quilombola youth leader presents Sharing Worlds at Google Conference
After three days travelling,  Patrícia Costa, a member of the Alto Pirativa Quilombola Community, a remote settlement in the northern state of Amapá,  attended the Geo for Good Summit in California. She described for conference participants the process of mapping quilombola communities in Amapá.

In 2018, the PCAB strengthened 32 protected area in 66 protected areas. Sustainable livelihoods of forest-dependent communities were strengthened on 22.6 million hectares. Demonstrating long term impact, the PCAB helped advance 20 Brazilian conservation policies and regulations and leveraged an additional US$ 4.7 million from the private sector through co-financed development for the Amazon. USAID and CIAT meet with partners to discuss innovative monitoring methodology combining land use and biodiversity data
Workshop was the first step in developing a biodiversity monitoring tool to assess impact investment initiatives in the Amazon and other activities carried out in partnership with the private sector.
New USAID Director meets with PPA companies to celebrate results
On September 26, newly arrived USAID/ Brazil Mission Director Ted Gehr met with representatives of the companies engaged in the Partnership Platform for the Amazon (PPA).
Pirarucu Participatory Monitoring in the state of Amazonas
From late August to September, IPÊ and ICMBio held training and other meetings linked to the participatory monitoring of pirarucu in the Unini River Extractive Reserve, the Baixo Juruá Extractive Reserve, the Jaú National Park and the Amanã Sustainable Development Reserve.
Biodiversity Participatory Monitoring showcased at international conference
IPÊ showcased their project in the third Latin American and Caribbean Congress on Protected Areas in Lima (Peru) which gathered over 3,000 participants from 33 countries.
Innovative technology package will help improve Brazil nut value chain
Together, the materials will make it easier for producers to follow standards in  nuts gathering and improve their capacity to organize their finances, increasing gains and profits for the communities.

Publication – Investing in Development Models and Tools to Attract Private Resources to Communities and Territories - This study identifies past and ongoing transfer mechanisms, their structuring processes and methodologies. It favors Brazilian cases, especially those located in the Legal Amazon. The publication results from a demand of the organizations involved in the group dealing with Territorial Development – Community Relations, Private Initiative and Public Policy under the Partners for the Amazon Platform (PPA). The study is available on the PPA website (in Portuguese).
 
CTI and ISPN launch tender process to support Territorial and Environmental Management in Eastern Amazon Indigenous Lands – The Indigenist Work Center (CTI) and the Society, Population and Nature Institute (ISPN) issued a call for projects focused on Territorial and Environmental Management in Eastern Amazon Indigenous Lands, under a wider project supported by the PCAB. The call is intended for indigenous, indigenist and socio-environmental associations, preferably working with indigenous peoples in Maranhão and northern Tocantins. The call will remain open until January 10, 2020.
 
Pará state quilombola communities validate Life Plans – On September and October, quilombola territories Ariramba, Cachoeira da Porteira and Mãe Domingas – Área Alto Trombetas I approved their Life Plans and started Quilombola Fund implementation, a territorial management instrument and financial governance mechanism created through a partnership between the Association of Remaining Quilombo Communities of the Municipality of Oriximiná (ARQMO), local land associations and the Sustainable Territories Program (quilombola team). The STP is a program developed by the Amazon Conservation Team (ECAM).
 
New enterprizes join the Partnership Platform for the Amazon - During September and October, Fundação Certi, Centro de Empreendedorismo da Amazônia, BH26, Tucum, Forest Trends, Alcoa and Nelson Willians Advogados joined the PPA, bringing more technology, innovation and investment expertise to the initiative.
 
Learn about the project UTSAMÃNERY KIMAPURI SARI KAI XITY (in English: "People on the Way to the Sacred Land"), conducted by the Apurinan and Jamamadi Indigenous Peoples Organization (OPIAJ) in partnership with the Brazilian Education Institute (IEB) and the Native Amazon Operation (OPAN). The association manages the project with its own resources, raised through a Small Grants Fund for the implementation of the National Policy for the Land and Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands (PNGATI). RECENT AND UPCOMING EVENTS
5 December – PPA Business Round – The businesses selected for the PPA Acceleration Program 2020 will participate in a business round in a “shark tank” format with investors in Manaus. Each business can access up to R$ 800,000 to cover the specific demands of their initiatives.
