We are saddened to learn of the passing of our friend Orville Rogers, just two weeks shy of his 102nd birthday. Orville was a powerful inspiration in many ways. He started running when he was 50 years old but didn't get competitive until he turned 90 and began setting world age group records. At 93, he had a serious stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side. He underwent intense physical therapy and came all the way back setting more than a dozen new world records.
“I think perseverance is overlooked," he told Growing Bolder. "Just keep at it, never give up."
Orville was the embodiment of compressed morbidity. He remained extremely active until falling ill recently and passed away quickly surrounded by loved ones.
