OIEPB Update Dec 2019

Season's Greetings!

Thank you for your ongoing support and interest in the physical therapy bridging program at U of T. We'll continue to design the best bridging program for internationally educated physiotherapists (IEPTs) to build upon their education, clinical experience and support them through their national exams. This is the formula for success!

Once registered to practice many opportunities open up for our alumni and we're proud they're employed in various settings including acute care hospitals, rehabilitation centres and outpatient community-based care facilities. They're impacting the communities and lives of Ontarians and Canadians across the country.

Have you noticed we've increased our social media footprint this past year? We're close to 1000 followers on Twitter @UofT_PT #OIEPB! Thank you for all the 'likes and shares'. Did you know that we also have a YouTube channel UTorontoPT where you can view our library of videos. Comments are always welcome.

As 2019 comes to a close, we look forward to an exciting new year and sharing more updates with you!

Cheers from the OIEPB Team!

Class of 2020 Update

It's hard to believe the class will be completing all of their onsite clinical practice sessions for 2019. The last 2 clinical sessions explore the integrated lifespan, multi-systems and healthcare integration. Onsite labs are integral to the program providing enriched learning experiences facilitated by expert clinicians from the field. To further enhance the clinical experience, patient volunteers provide real case scenarios for hands-on practice and interactions. The class will be confident and well prepared for their last clinical internship next January. February will bring the class back together for their final residency week. Stay tuned for updates in the new year.

Admissions is OPEN - 10-month Comprehensive Bridging Program.
Is this the right program for you?

Here's what our past graduates had to say:

"...internship [is that it] opened my eyes to new fields and newer possibilities, waiting to be explored. It has given me fresh eyes and a massive second wind."

"I can really experience the working environment in Canadian health care setting. I can also apply my culture specific training technique in Canadian setting, which is great. I also stimulate my thoughts of what to go next in my professional journey in Canada...also help in my preparation to find job here in Toronto...."

"I gained confidence to work as a PT in Canadian health care system."

Beyond Bridging - What's up with 2017 Past President Adiilah Heenaye Sumser?

Adiilah has been busy since she graduated from the bridging program in 2017. One of her many roles is a  practicing as a primary healthcare physiotherapist in Toronto, Ontario.

Adiilah is part of a team that "really value the feedback of clients through surveys about physiotherapy services and how these services impact change in their health. By tracking data across the years, it is clear that physiotherapy is not only beneficial to reduce pain but also pain medications. We have a very strategic and vital capability to initiate and build health promotion strategies for our clients which is the base for a healthy community."

As an Ontario Physiotherapy Association (OPA) member, Adiilah recently attended the annual Primary Health Care (PHC) Connect event in Burlington, Ontario. PHC Connect is a networking event organized for physiotherapists working in primary health care organizations across Ontario.

Read Adiilah's OPA article to learn how the "Evolving Role of Physiotherapists in the Primary Healthcare System" can impact the future well-being of Ontarians.
