Report says diabetes increasing among Kentucky adults: Diabetes and prediabetes are on the rise in Kentucky. The prevalence of diabetes among Kentucky adults has increased from 6.5 percent – 240,000 adults – in 2000 to 12.9 percent – 442,480 adults – in 2017, according to the 2019 Kentucky Diabetes Report. Read More
KY Youth Advocates releases 2019 report on kids education, health and economics. The Kentucky Youth Advocates, a lobbyist working for kids and families across the state of Kentucky, has released their 2019 Kids Count data book on Tuesday, which highlights multiple data points involving education, health, and economics across 120 counties. Mary E. Martin Diabetes Center of Excellence is First UK Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center Affiliate. The aim for Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center affiliates is to promote evidence-based approaches to diabetes as well as provide standardized methods to diabetes education. As an affiliate, the center in Hazard will have access to clinical research trials and to the clinical expertise of UK faculty in diabetes and endocrinology. Read More

KY Health Department launches service to help teens stop vaping. The Kentucky Department for Public Health has launched a free service aimed at helping teens quit vaping, smoking, and using other tobacco products. Read More
Immunization Program: The Immunization Data and Surveillance Section within the Department for Public Health Immunization Branch is proud to announce the release of 2019 county level immunization rates by age and vaccine type in map format directly available on our website!  Rates are available for ages: 2, 5, 13, 17, and 65 years. Ky. has improved on several measures of children's health, but some counties continue to lag far behind and get worse. Almost one in four Kentuckians are children. Most have health insurance, fewer teenagers are getting pregnant, and fewer babies are being born at a low birth weight. Read More
