Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Dear <<First Name>>,

Did you miss the latest meeting of Senior Book Break? No worries. We've got you covered with an update of the books and authors discussed.

November Senior Book Break?

There were only a few to take up the challenge this month with the topic of seniors, but the results were very entertaining.
Donna, our resident blogger, shared a donation she picked up for the library. She felt Unpacking My Library by Leah Price would be an important addition to our collection.
The book spotlights the libraries of 13 favorite novel writers, complete with photos. From rare first editions, to tattered second hand paperbacks, their collections are featured. How do your books stack up?

November's Books:

1. The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan

This National Book Award winner is non-fiction. It follows a dozen families through desperate times. The challenges, the courage of those who fought through the catastrophe of the Dust Bowl. Arguably the best book ever written about those who stayed behind, who kept trying.

2. The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen. 83 ¼ Years Old by Hendrik Groen.

An inspiring, charming and laugh-out-loud look at life in a retirement home. Hendrik, bored with his life as it is, decided to rebel and with the help of his friend, Evert, stirs up revolt. Forming the Old-But-Not-Dead club, they take on the powers that be.  Highly recommended by our reader.

3. All My Friends Are Dead by Avery Monsen and Jory Jones

A very small book, all illustrations, that gives seniors another look at life. The cartoons are simple, and explicit. For instance, the Dodo bird can seriously say “All my friends are dead.” As can the dinosaur and so on.
This is a brief, comic look at life among the elders, the laughs are worth the time.

Hope to see you at the next Senior Book Break.
Happy Holidays to everyone!

Our next Senior Book Break topic is Pets.
See you at the library at 10:30 a.m. on December 10.

Meet the Author with Judythe Guarnera

Our latest Meet the Author event, featuring Judythe Guarnera, was an evening of laughter, short stories and examples of how connected we all are through humor, tragedy and relatable life experiences.
Judythe has been published in print, online publications and anthologies including "Chicken Soup for the Soul." Her first novel "Twenty-Nine Sneezes," written to raise awareness of the ongoing need for support for victims and their families once acute trauma has ended, is a poignant story of a young survivor.
