A sculpture by Justin Bowles (Academic Services) is included in "Color Schemes: The Value of Intensity," a group exhibition at Crosstown Arts. The exhibition focuses on the meaning, sensitivity, and passion that the intensity of color creates, and will be on display through February 9.
Matthew Hamner (Visual & Performing Arts) will be appearing as Walker Harris, a crusading journalist, in the Cloud9 Memphis production of Lee Blessing’s Two Rooms at TheatreWorks on December 13-21. The play centers around the Lebanon hostage crisis of the 1980s and was named "Best Play of the Year" by Time Magazine in 1988. Lasallian Student Leader of the Week

This week's Lasallian Student Leader of the Week goes to Brooklyn Villamor ('21)! Brooklyn is majoring in English with a double minor in Visual Arts and Psychology. She is from Nashville and currently serves as VP of Communications for SAC, president of the French Club, and is a member of the Track team! From serving those around her to making sure everyone feels included and apart of the group, Brooklyn consistently uplifts others! We want to celebrate her today for who she is and for the leader she is and is becoming. We see and appreciate you Brooklyn! 🤗
What does being a Lasallian Student mean to you? I think being a Lasallian student to me is about welcoming and accepting everyone no matter their background, ethnicity, nationality, or class. I think it's also actively listening to others' input when it comes to anything because the best thing diversity offers is the opportunity to look at a situation from a different perspective. I also think there is a lot of power in education as well. Not just going to class but actively learning. Specifically for me, Philosophy and Sociology have both given me opportunities to truly question myself and the world around me, and from this, I have grown so much (shout out to Dr. James and Dr. Johnson, who have truly inspired me as a student).
What advice do you have for other students when it comes to leading? Come in with an open mind and an open heart. Some of the best things that have happened to me only did because I was open to it. During my freshman year, I was so isolated by my past experiences that I restricted myself so much. But now, two years later, my world has changed so much. My best friends are people I thought I would never relate to, I am a part of a college team and a sport I thought I'd never join, and I am president of a club and a member of SAC, organizations that required leadership skills I wasn't sure I had. Also, like Dr.Burke always says, "Say YES!"
What is your favorite thing about CBU? The community and its diversity. I have never been a part of a community that was so supportive of everyone's growth and success. From the first time I received a call from admissions to now, I have never had a moment where I wasn't sure at least one person (be it a professor, a faculty member, a suitemate, or a classmate) would be there to help guide me forward. I am truly thankful for this school.
NOMINATE THE NEXT STUDENT LEADER OF THE WEEK!

An Introduction to Indian Philosophy
by Roy W. Perrett

This wide-ranging introduction to classical Indian philosophy is philosophically rigorous without being too technical for beginners. Through detailed explorations of the full range of Indian philosophical concerns, including some metaphilosophical issues, it provides readers with non-Western perspectives on central areas of philosophy, including epistemology, logic, metaphysics, ethics, philosophy of language, and philosophy of religion. Chapters are structured thematically, with each including suggestions for further reading. This provides readers with an informed overview whilst enabling them to focus on particular topics if needed. – page 4 of cover

Dear 2019-20 Graduates:

This is a friendly reminder that a graduation application is required in order for all degrees to be conferred. If you plan to graduate in DECEMBER, and you have not already completed a graduation application, you must do so immediately. Please be advised that the graduation application deadline for December graduates has passed, and those filing after the September 15 deadline will now be assessed a $50 late fee in addition to the $130 standard graduation fee. The application deadline for May and August graduates is December 1, 2019.

The $130 graduation fee is applied at the beginning of the semester in which graduation is anticipated. This application fee is applicable for one year. After this time, students who have not completed their degree requirements will be removed from the graduation list, and they must reapply for graduation, as well as repay the graduation fee. Those filing after the stated deadlines will also be assessed a non-refundable late fee of $50.00.

If you have already applied for graduation, you do not need to resubmit an application. BannerWeb will actually block you from submitting another application if there is an active graduation application on file. You can confirm whether or not a graduation application is on file via BannerWeb > Student Services> Student Records > View Application to Graduate. If you need to edit your graduation application, please email any changes to graduation@cbu.edu. Think Safety: Tips from Campus Police

DATE SAFE
What’s Your Comfort Zone? If you only feel safe on campus, stay on campus. Your first date could be conversation and coffee in the Buc.
Friends with Friends: Meet potential dates through the people you trust. Your roommate, sorority sister, fraternity brother, or your teammate may have a friend you like. Your friends can vouch for their friends.
Stay Connected: While on the date, make sure you stay connected to friends or family. Let them know who you are going out with, where you’re going, when you'll be back, what you'll be doing, and why you're going out with this person.
Phone a Friend: Have a friend call or text you at a specific time to check in. Or, you could set up a word or phrase (green-everything is okay, red-call me, meet me, or call the police) that indicates if everything is okay or if there's trouble. Make sure someone knows where your date is taking you and approximately when you'll be back.
Before You Go: If you can, find out about the persons previous relationships. Are they funny and friendly or are they verbally or physically abusive? Know before you go!
Can You Hear Me Now? Fully charge your cell phone before a date. You never want to be in a situation where you need to call 911 or Campus Police (321-3550), but you can’t.
