Join me for an hour of mindful movement that honours the Pilates principles: breathing, balance, coordination, stability and strength. This class builds strength through the core, ensuring efficient movement by supporting the spine. A flowing class that can be as challenging as you choose to make it!

The Wellington Centre

Move of the Month: Cat Cow

Start on hands and knees in a box position. Hands directly under shoulders, knees directly under your hips — hip width apart. Back straight. 

INHALE to prepare: 
  • EXHALE tuck the tailbone under and sequentially flex the spine into the shape of and angry cat — head is the last thing to relax down to the mat;
  • INHALE pull the pubic bone towards the nose;
  • EXHALE send the sit bones to the sky, let the belly fall to the floor and lastly lift the head to look straight forward;
  • INHALE to stay;

  • INHALE pull the pubic bone towards the nose;

REPEAT × 3-5 times.

Note: continue in smooth movement focussing on moving the vertebrae one at a time. Imagine the spine is a bicycle chain. Move slowly and sequentially. If you feel discomfort in your wrists fold the end of the mat or place a small towel under the heel of the hand to reduce the angle between the wrist and the mat. ENJOY!
