Transgender Day of Remembrance
The New Beginnings Center was honored to gather with our community partners on Wednesday, November 20 in order to recognize and honor our fallen trans and non-binary friends taken by violence this past year. Diversity Collective joined with Cal Lutheran Center for Cultural Engagement and Inclusion sponsored this memorable event.  Guest speakers included transfeminine gender fluid activist and community advocate Celia Daniels (pictured here) and 26-year-old transfeminine genderqueer feminist and community advocate, Addison Rose Vincent.  Those lost were honored through spoken word, visual art and a candlelight vigil.

On this night we honored our fallen trans and non-binary community through anger and tears. We heard the voices of three resilient activist who recalled the names and challenged us to come together and do better with key calls to action. We were reminded that Trans lives have value! I see that they enrich and fill mine with value everyday. I SEE you, I SEE your value. TDOR 2019.

This coming Sunday, November 24, the United Church of Christ in Simi Valley, CA welcomes The New Beginnings Center's very own  Sean Baker as the guest speaker.   Sean will be providing the main message, sharing his faith journey in connection with his transition and why having a day of remembrance for the transgender community is of vital importance.  There will be  a prayer litany for those whose lives have been lost because of hate, violence, and transphobia, not just in the United States, but throughout the world.  Those present will honor and remember these people through our prayers, music and songs, candle lighting, and more.

Please join us for this very special gathering.
