LEHS Weekly Informational Letter
December 9, 2019

Dear LEHS Community,
Vaping has become a national epidemic.  Many students do not see the dangers with vaping and many are only able to purchase vaping cartridges through the black market, which contain the most dangerous chemicals.  This epidemic will require the entire village to come together to help our young people understand these dangers.  I’ve included a link to a “Today Show” special that helps identify many of the ways young people are hiding these devices in plain sight.

Research has shown that regular conversations between parents and their children about drugs drastically reduces the chance of a young person becoming involved in drugs.  Our school web page contains a great link to help provide tips for these conversations.  https://www.loganelm.org/StartTalking.aspx

Sincerely,
Nate Smith
Principal

Braves Against Drugs
LEHS has kicked off our annual campaign for “Braves against Drugs.”  Students who enroll in this program every year receive a t-shirt, coupons from local fast food chains, a ticket in the drawing for the Coughlin Automotive Car Give-away, and they are also subject to random drug screenings.  Our goal with this program is to give students an out when faced with peer pressure related to drug use.  Students were given information last Wednesday during lunch to bring home for parent signatures.  Students must re-enroll every year and pay $5 to help offset the cost of their t-shirt.
