Community Action Norfolk will close for Christmas at 5pm on 24th December and reopens at 9am on 2nd January. 

Momentum (Norfolk) and Voluntary Norfolk will close for Christmas at 4pm on 24th December and reopen at 9am on 2nd January.

General Election Asks

With the General Election taking place on Thurs 12th December several organisations have shared their “asks”.  Key amongst these are:

  • ACRE – commitment to support rural people and communities.  You can read more by clicking here

  • NCVO – commitment to a manifesto supporting and promoting the charitable sector, volunteers and their roles in society.  You can read more by clicking here.

Norfolk Care Association Progress Update

The Norfolk Care Association Interim Board have shared a progress update on their work to establish a Care Association for Norfolk.  Please click the button below for more information. 


Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board's Annual Report 2018-19

Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board (NSAB) have published their Annual Report for 2018 / 19.  The report contains information about safeguarding activities in Norfolk and the relaunch of the Herbert Protocol, in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary.  For more information please click the button below.

Mortality and Life Expectancy in the UK

A report into the Mortality and Life Expectancy trends in the UK has been published by the Health Foundation.  The report provides analysis of mortality data including what is driving current trends.  For more information please click the button below.   


Charity Annual Returns

Charities are advised to print copies of their draft Annual Return before finally submitting them online as the Charity Commission no longer sends charities a PDF version as it has done in previous years. 

Workforce Skill Gaps

NCVO have published findings of their research into the skill gaps in the voluntary sector.  The research measured skill gaps in hard to fill vacancies, applicants and existing teams.  For more information please click the button below.

Saving your organisation energy

The Carbon Trust has published tools for small to medium sized enterprises to measure, manage and reduce their carbon emissions.  These tools can be found by clicking the button below. 

Working with people who could be experiencing fuel poverty?
Community Action Norfolk are working with BESN (Big Energy Saving Network) to deliver free training to frontline workers and volunteers who support people who might be struggling to heat their homes adequately, to help them if they spot someone experiencing fuel poverty.  To book the free one-hour training session for your staff and volunteers please email office@communityactionnorfolk.org.uk

 

 

The Family Support Fund

Support is available for families with children under five who are in receipt of tier 2 or above family support from the Early Childhood & Family Service or other statutory or voluntary services.  The support is broken into three strands:

  • Professional support – Specialist interventions based on identified needs of a family - to improve outcomes for child development, improve social mobility and to reduce risk of neglect or emotional harm.

  • Family Support Funding - Items/services over £50 in addition to the family support the family are already in receipt of, and transport costs for travel to targeted activities matched to family’s need

  • Emergency Family Support Funding - to request financial support for families up to £50 for items that families need urgently to meet the needs of their children aged under 5 years.

Data Protection and No-Deal Brexit

Should the UK leave the EU without a deal, organisations will still need to comply with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and will need to amend their contracts if they receive personal data from the EU / EEA.  Further information can be found by clicking here
Personal data that you might receive from the EU could include:

  • Outsourced HR or back office functions.

  • Contact details of partners and / or suppliers.

  • Data sharing within your organisation if you have operations in Europe.

CAN are giving free training to help organisations, staff and volunteers how to understand cyber security.  For more information click the button below. 


Village Halls Week 2020 – Still time to join in

Village Halls Week is a national celebration of village halls, their volunteers and the services they offer their communities. This year Village Halls Week 2019 gained substantial attention for village halls including being featured across 16 BBC stations.  Next year, Village Halls Week 2020 will run from Mon 20th January - Sun 26th January 2020. The celebration includes:  

  • Share Your History - Thurs 23rd January 2020 - Share your hall’s history on social media using the hashtag #tbt and #villagehallsweek. You could put up old pictures or past flyers, detail significant guests, share an old film or write an article on your history.

  • National Open Day - Sat 25th January 2020 - Next year there will be halls holding open days across all of England. This is a great opportunity to get new trustees, new user groups, boost community engagement and get a visit from your local MP.

Voluntary Sector Forum

Caring for Someone Else’s Child

People caring for someone else’s child who isn’t a close relative for over 28 days are called Private Foster Carers. Norfolk County Council need to be informed if you, or someone you know, could be a private fosterer.  Please click the button below to find out more about private fostering and to read guidance for children and private foster carers. 


Sector Leadership Group

SLG Election Result 

In November 2019 the following candidates were elected to Norfolk’s Sector Leadership Group (SLG):

  • Rachel Cowdry (Break)

  • Daniel Childerhouse (Future Projects)

  • Daniel Williams (YourNorfolk)

They will be joining other elected and nominated members in bi-monthly meetings, from January 2020. 

They will support the SLG to:

  • Act as a point of contact for our partners in the public, private and VCSE sectors by attending partnership and board meetings within the County.

  • Work to progress the key actions from the Sector Led Plan e.g. understanding and planning to meet the future needs of VCSE workforce.

  • Identify and develop VCSE streams of work and shared agendas which affect us all, or might benefit from a co-ordinated or collaborative approach.

 
Recent SLG meetings have focused on a wide range of shared agendas from health and social care to the UK’s ‘Climate Emergency’ and the SLG welcomes the experience and networks that its newly elected members will bring.

Norfolk County Council Budget Consultation

The SLG have been discussing Norfolk County Council's budget consultation and will be issuing a response soon.  The SLG would like to urge other organisations to take part in the consultation and have their say.  There is a short deadline for responses of Tues 10th March.  More information can be found by clicking the button below.  


Engagement and Consultations

Norfolk's Fire and Rescue Service proposals

Consultation is open on proposed plans for Norfolk’s Fire and Rescue Service.  The plan covers 2020 to 2023 and takes into account the findings of the recent HMICFRS (Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services) inspection.  The deadline for comments is Tues 10th December.  For more information please click the button below.

 

Heacham Neighbourhood Plan

Consultation is open on Heacham Parish Council’s Neighbourhood Plan.  The deadline for comments is Tues 17th December.  For more information please click the button below.     


Breckland Budget Consultation 2020/21

Consultation is open on Breckland District Council’s proposed Budget for 2020/21 and Medium-Term Financial Plan.   The documents include:
Draft budget setting, medium term plan and capital strategy

  • Appendix C - Tax Base

  • Appendix D - Fees and Charges

Extended Deadline: Division Boundaries for Norfolk County Council

Consultation on draft recommendations for new council divisions and division boundaries is open.  The review makes recommendations for:

  • the number of divisions

  • the number of councillors representing each division

  • division boundaries and division names

The aim is that each councillor will represent a more equal number of voters and that the divisions should better reflect the interests and identities of the local community.  The extended deadline for comments is Mon 13th January.  For more information please click the button below.

Awards

Health and Wellbeing Board Awards

Nominations for individuals or organisations are open for the first Health and Wellbeing Awards. Nominees will have contributed to delivering the ambitions of the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy.  There will be two categories:

  • Chairman's Awards - recognising service delivery, innovation or improvement by an organisation or department

  • Health and Wellbeing Hero - recognising an individual's exceptional contribution within the community
