Tunnels play a vital role in infrastructure. Many of them are aging and in need of major renovations. They cannot be shut down due to required high availability. Because of the volume and urgency of the tasks, this challenge needs to be addressed at an international scale. The conference Beyond a tunnel vision an important stepping stone in European collaboration.
The conference will take place in The Hague, The Netherlands, on Friday November 27th 2020. International experts are invited to apply as speaker!

The conference is an important stepping stone in European collaboration and, finally, an European tunnel programme. With the support and cooperation of nine countries the Netherlands centre for underground construction, the COB, has composed a position paper on tunnels in Europe. This paper addresses the challenges that lay ahead and defines three main goals: availability is key, digitalisation is crucial and adding value is a must.

The first edition of Beyond a tunnel vision was held in Brussels in 2018. There were two plenary sessions and three rounds of interactive workshops addressing themes as digitalisation, asset management and best practices.

In 2018, over 300 representatives of the European infrastructure community attended, such as asset owners and operators, tunnel managers, consultants, contractors and suppliers

Beyond a tunnel vision is aimed at sharing real life problems and learning from practical solutions for asset owners. The topics presented at the conference should meet these requirements. Therefore, when you apply as speaker, you need to address the practical value of your contribution for asset owners and fit your subject into the three goals of the European tunnel network. You also need to join forces with another organisation: each presentation should be a co-production, for example client/contractor, asset owner/knowledge institute, contractor/sub-contractors, et cetera.
