National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on Fri, Dec 6

At 5pm on December 6, 1989, a gunman entered an engineering classroom at Ecole Polytechnique and murdered 14 women and injured several more. The victims were targeted because of their gender, and the date has become a day of remembrance and action against gender-based violence and discrimination. We are one of 14 engineering schools across Canada uniting to commemorate this anniversary. Each school will shine a beam of light into the sky at 5pm on Friday, December 6, from UBC in the west to Dalhousie in the east. Each ceremony across the country will be broadcast live on CBC. U of T Engineering's memorial event will run from 4:45-5:30pm at King's College Circle. It is open to all students, staff, faculty and alumni, as well as members of the Ryerson, OTU and York engineering communities. For more details and to register, click here. In the event of inclement weather, guests will gather on Level 8 of the Myhal Centre.
