SPOTLIGHT: PUBLIC SCHOOLS PROGRAM
|
|
Our Public Schools Program brings Outward Bound's dynamic lessons and life-changing impact to middle and high school students in communities that have been historically excluded from experiential education and outdoor recreation opportunities. We currently partner with 5 schools in the Portland metro area.
Over the course of eight weeks, Outward Bound instructors facilitate activities in the classroom that support leadership development, encourage self-awareness, and build stronger connections among peers. Each student also gets to participate in an expedition day at a challenge/ropes course, rock climbing gym, mountain biking park, or community service project where they challenge their self-imposed limitations and discover something in themselves they didn't know existed.
Former Reynolds School District Assistant Superintendent, Frank Caropelo, recalled, “We’ve seen individual successes in students in identity, development, self-confidence, the ability to take on challenges that they don’t think that they can take on and then be successful. And that really changes the course of their lives and what they believe is possible for them.”
Your gift during our End-of-Year Campaign provides critical support for initiatives and programs like scholarships that can change students' lives. Plus, due to a challenge grant from the Arthur M. Blank Foundation, you can double your impact. *Gifts will be matched from new donors as well as gifts at increased levels from current donors – meaning if you gave $50 last year and give $100 this year, $50 will be matched!
