EXTRA! EXTRA!
SUPPORT LOCAL INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM

A free press is a fundamental pillar of democracy. Just as voting in local elections matters, so does supporting local journalism. Because national news does not cover what goes on in Harrisburg, state and local politicians go unchecked. Working with news outlets across PA, the new Spotlight PA initiative produces investigative journalism about PA government and state issues, unlocking transparency and accountability. According to Pew, “U.S. adults who are more civically engaged are far more likely to pay for local news than those who are less engaged.”

DONATE TO SPOTLIGHT PA to make sure local investigative journalism stays afloat. Thanks to the Wyncote Foundation and NewsMatch, your donation will be tripled through December 31.

REGISTER NEW CITIZENS TO VOTE

PICC has Monday and Friday volunteer slots open to register new citizens to vote after naturalization ceremonies at USCIS at 30 N. 41st Street. It is a moving experience to watch the ceremony and register new citizens who are excited to exercise their right to vote for the first time. Sign up here. Also, read a recent LA Times article about the importance of these new U.S. citizens at the ballot box.

REGISTER PROSPECTIVE VOTERS FROM HOME

Volunteer on your own time from home by sending letters and voter registration packets to prospective voters who are likely to vote for Democrats. Write and send 5 packets on your own, or throw a voter registration party and send 100. Vote Forward is planning campaigns for state-level and special elections, and laying the groundwork for massive efforts to help win the Presidency and both houses of Congress in 2020. Click here to sign up to send letters.
