Book Fair is here, Family Night In from The Kitchen Table, Spirit Wear sales extended, Food Drive week

Book Fair is here!

It's Book Fair week! PTA puts on this annual event for our school. It is open every day this week during the school day, with extra hours on Tuesday evening for "Reading Under the Stars" night with special guest readers! Here's the schedule:

Book Fair Hours:

MONDAY, DEC. 9: Open from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

TUESDAY, DEC. 10: WEAR FLANNEL for Camp Out with a Good Book Day! The fair is open from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and then again from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for "Reading Under the Stars" night. Guest readers will read aloud in the library every 20 minutes during "Reading Under the Stars" night. Camping and wildlife-loving guests from our school community will read aloud, including a State Park Ranger, Wildlife Biologist, former science teacher Ms. Browndorf and nature-loving teachers Ms. Smith and Ms. Wilson-Seelig.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 11: Open from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

THURSDAY, DEC. 12: Open from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

FRIDAY, DEC. 13: Final fair hours are 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Family Night In for December

Family Night In all December at The Kitchen Table at Relish

This month instead of Family Night Out, we're having Family Night In -- all December-long at The Kitchen Table at Relish. Pick up food for a night in with your family, and help our school, too.

Any time you order take out at The Kitchen Table at Relish in December, if you mention Hilburn Academy, they will donate 5% of your purchase back to Hilburn.

You can choose “take & bake" (frozen) or “hot & ready” to eat. Order by phone, online, or in person -- just make sure you tell them you are from Hilburn Academy.

Food Drive for Wake Relief

Hilburn Academy's annual Food Drive for Wake Relief is in its second week and will wrap up on Friday, Dec 13. Thanks so much to our school counselors for organizing this annual food drive. Send in donations of non-perishable food items with students to their classrooms this week and next week.

Class incentives:
The class in PreK-2 and one in 3-5 with the most donations will get a cupcake lunch bunch with the counselors. The middle school homeroom(s) with the most donations will get breakfast with administrators.To make homerooms more equal, classes will be grouped as: Burrell, Capel/Mott/Shaikh, Bass/Zelenakas, Root/Gomez/Gay and Clark/Wilson-Seelig.

Spirit Wear sales extended

The fall Spirit Wear sales period has been extended until Wednesday, Dec. 11. Get your gear to start the new year -- orders will be delivered to school in January.

Cash and check orders should be turned into teachers along with the order form. All credit card orders can be placed online through the Hilburn Academy PTA website at: hilburnacademypta.com/spiritwear.html.

Middle School Crochet Club

A new middle school club is starting up in the new year and needs your support. The Crochet Club will start up on Jan. 10 and is in need of supplies and a right-handed hooker. The club will meet at 7:30 a.m. in Room 509, and an interest meeting will be held on Dec. 20. We need 5mm hooks and 4-ply knitting worsted weight yarn. Ms. Bowman is supervising the club, and as she is left handed, it would be great to have a co-supervisor who can help with teaching how to crochet right-handed. Please contact Ms. Bowman at mbowman@wcpss.net if you are interested in helping out or donating supplies.

Girls on the Run registration open

Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using fun experienced-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Who: Girls grades 3-5

When: Weeks of February 3 – April 25, Tuesdays 3:30-4:45

Name the Hawk: Have you submitted suggestions yet to name our new Hilburn Hawk mascot costume? Drop name ideas in the Hawk jar in the school lobby. The Hawk name will be announced later this school year in celebration of Hilburn's 25th Anniversary.

Time Capsule: To celebrate our anniversary, Hilburn PTA is donating a time capsule to be buried in the spring. The capsule will be accompanied by a commemorative plaque donated by PTA.
