Persons can learn about critical issues facing the 2020 session of the Missouri General Assembly AND about big developments bringing thousands of jobs to south Kansas City at two major SKCA events this month.
At 6 p.m. Monday, December 9, at the South Patrol Police Campus, 9701 Marion Park Dr., a panel of state legislators who represent major portions of south KC will discuss urgent issues expected to be debated during the 2020 legislative session which starts January 8 and their personal priorities for the session.
Confirmed speakers include Senator Jason Holsman, Representatives Ashley Bland Manlove, Richard Brown, Greg Razer and Joe Runions; and Representative-Elect Mark Sharp.
Also at Monday’s meeting, Ruskin High School juniors Jordan Holley-Nelson and Anisa Thurman will let attendees know the latest good news from the high school, which will be a new regular feature at SKCA meetings. The meeting will be in the front building of South Patrol.
The SKCA’s 6th Annual Economic Development Summit to update the community on the progress of major developments in south KC will be from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 14, at Avila University’s Whitfield Center, 11901 Wornall Rd.
The free event titled “Job Growth Continues” will include a hot breakfast buffet and feature speakers with the latest news about big development projects and associated new jobs and business opportunities throughout south Kansas City.
Projects scheduled to be discussed include the planned redevelopment of the former Bannister Federal Complex, expansion of the Burns & McDonnell Headquarters, flood control projects to protect the Dodson Industrial District and the Swope Park Industrial Area, multiple new developments in the Martin City area, the rejuvenation of Red Bridge Shopping Center, the continuing development of Richards-Gebaur Commerce Park which still has office and industrial buildings and lots available for lease, development of the Three Trails Industrial Park, and the construction of Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City.
Seating is limited to 160 persons, so those planning to attend should register as soon as possible at Eventbrite or on the SKCA website (southkcalliance.org) since the event is expected to reach seating capacity.
