President's Message

Sisters of the Cloth,

Happy New Year and I hope you are rested and replenished. If you make resolutions, congrats. The closest I get is participating in the UFO challenge! With our month extension over December, I hope you are closing in on your goals.
If anyone is driving to our meetings from the island, I hope you will consider sharing a ride with one of our past members who would like to join the Patchers again. Laura is a lovely lady who doesn't drive at night anymore. Call me if you would be able to make this happen and I will connect the two of you.
January's meeting looks to be fun and Vicki will be leading us. Your help in making items for the Show bazaar is appreciated.
Just take it one stitch at a time,

- Sandy

January Meeting - It's a Pyjama Party!

Get comfy and come on out to a pyjama party. At our guild meeting, we will be working on small projects for the guild boutique at the Quilt Show. If you wish to sew bring a machine. If you like to iron, bring a press board and iron. If you like to hand stitch, bring scissors and a needle and thread. There’s a job for everyone! There will be full instructions and precut projects ready to begin. If you wish to make your own version (ie. reduce your stash), bring 2 coordinating fat quarters, and cutting tools.
If you have any ideas for things that you think would be good sellers, we would welcome those too for future ventures (items, pictures, patterns, links).
This is meant to be a good old fashion quilting bee where friends get together to sew for a cause. Hope you can join us and enjoy a relaxed evening out.

P.S. I am bringing popcorn!    - Vicki
Treats for January Meeting

As Diane is not able to do set-up currently, we are asking those who are bringing treats to arrive a bit early - any time after 6:30 - to help with set-up for the meeting. Thank you ladies for your contributions this month:
Sandy Austin, Hazel Holt, Leianne McCallum, Marie Robinson
Remember: There's popcorn too!
Outreach
Following is an update on the Hospice:

On Friday November 8th, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, Robin Martin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health, and Lindsey Park, MPP for Durham joined to announce an additional $600,000 in one-time capital funding to support the construction of three additional beds at Oak Ridges Hospice, bringing the total number of hospice beds to eight! When the doors open to the “Morgan and Sidhu House”, the province will provide the hospice with $840,000 annually to support compassionate end-of-life care.

They have received the foundation permit from Scugog Township and you will see some activity on the building site as they prepare to pour the foundation. The majority of the construction costs must come from donations and grants. The “Building for Compassionate Care” Capital Campaign for Oak Ridges Hospice has a goal of more than $6.6 million dollars. To date, $5 million dollars has been raised thanks to the initial support of two major donors, Kevin Morgan and Dave Sidhu, and the generosity of other supportive communities and groups throughout all of Durham Region.

NEW - Hand Stitching Circle

Join us to enjoy an afternoon of Slow Stitching,
an opportunity to sew together,
to get to know your fellow Patchers better
and to learn from each other
.

Youth Room at Hope Church on or about the third Thursday of every month from 1 to 4. This is an informal group, bring whatever you are working on, and join the circle. Come and go for as long as you like.

Beverages will not be provided, but there is a kettle
so bring your mug and a tea bag.

Treats may or may not appear depending on the day.
I will bring cookies for our first gathering.

A toonie in the jar will cover the room costs
and if you bring a friend/non-member
we will ask them for a $4 dollar donation to the jar.

We all have binding, or hand quilting or wool work or whatever in our work baskets to do, and what better way to do it than in the company of friends.

Dates are confirmed for January 23, February 20, March 19, April 16, May 21 and June 18. If you have any questions see me at Guild or email me – sylviamariapatterson@gmail.com.
