1st Annual D.A.T.E Academy CTAE Showcase

The first ever Dekalb Academy CTAE Showcase was on full view for the public last week, as the school partnered with STEAM Teams to produce a first class affair to showcase the CTAE department and STEAM Teams course work. The event, held in the school’s gym on December 5th, displayed the future of CTAE and abilities of our students in Animation (2D/3D), Digital Media (Film/Photography) and Drones. Partners for the event included the Art Institute of Atlanta, Blender, Universal Phoenix Group, Slush Naturals and Digital Dance Culture.

Industry Pro and AIA Instructor, French Spencer gives the students at Dekalb Academy of Technology and Environment a memorable experience during the D.A.T.E CTAE Showcase. A special rig was set up and students were given the chance to act, see themselves and even work with the equipment hands on.

Special Guest and Presenter, Tom Biondilillo of the Art Institute of Atlanta gives valuable information and advice on the importance of not over specializing in any one area for aspiring students in the animation/production fields.

The students in all CTAE classes were tasked with completing a final project based on rubric to prepare for the showcase. The Digital Media students were also on full display as production crew members for DNN (D.A.T.E News Network), applying their photography and film skills through coverage of the event in the form of interviews, pictures, video footage and social media curations.

The day finished with an Awards Ceremony in which D.A.T.E Academy supplied over $1,000 worth of awards in the forms of gift cards and trophies. The event was a resolute success and STEAM Teams looks forward to an even bigger affair and more support the next time.
