We’d like to take this moment to thank you for your support, update you on what we accomplished this year, and let you know what you can expect from We Re-Member in 2020. Because of your support we were able to do amazing things this year, and we look forward to accomplishing more next year.
Our Year in Review
In addition to launching We Re-Member this past February, we:
- Engaged in an extensive research project where we toured and identified sites that we will incorporate into our experiential learning opportunities.
- Established relationships with several partners including local organizations, mentors, and service providers.
- Established our “Road to Re-Member” (RRM) mapping project. RRM is a project that documents the resources and tips we used to trace our ancestry back to periods of enslavement. This year we were both fortunate to interview our elders and trace our family history back to enslavement. RRM catalogues the resources we used and packages them in a user-friendly format for others.
- Hosted 3 events including 1) a Black History Month mixer where we explored the legacy of local heroine Mary Ellen Pleasant, 2) a “freedom” themed exhibit and discussion based on our research in Alabama and Louisiana, and 3) an All Saints Day commemoration where we highlighted Saints of the African-Diaspora.

- Monthly mixers and presentations on our research and findings.
- Monthly Road to Remember (RRM) video-blogs so that you can watch videos of our research, travels, and discoveries.
- 4 experiential learning events: Black History Month, Juneteenth, Black August, and All Saints Day.
- 1 Year Anniversary Celebration
