Friends of the Caribbean Newsletter
 

The events in November gave us a lot to think about.  We celebrated Black History Month.  We commemorated Armistice Day by paying our respects to the brave soldiers, including people of colour, who lost their lives in WW1.  We met with Community and Political Leaders, and celebrated the consecration of our Patron at St Paul's Cathedral which you can read below  in this edition.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
 
FOTC's Christmas Party  for adults and children, will be held on 7th December 2019 at 7pm until 10pm. It will be held at Conniburrow Community Centre, 37-39 Coniburrow Boulevard, MK14 7DX, Milton Keynes. Contact Pauline on 07973 560686.  Bring a Dish & Share in the festivities.  
 
Friends of the Caribbean have booked tables at the Holiday Inn Christmas Party on 21st December 2019 so come and join us.  Book now to avoid disappointment.  Tickets are available by contacting the Hotel directly on 01908 698555 or MEETINGS@HIMILTONKEYNES.CO.UK  and quote FOTC Xmas Party.
FOTC FRIENDSHIP GROUP
The Friends of the Caribbean Friendship Group was officially launched on 13th September 2019.  It was designed to promote activities geared towards the Caribbean and related cultural events to the local community, particularly those who are isolated from their communities.  The events are sourced by FOTC members to ensure they are fit for purpose before they are posted onto the website by one of the two administrators. 

The website can be accessed by downloading a 'Meet Up' App unto mobile phones.  There are currently 81 members in the Friendship Group who are primarily made up of the general public and are not all members of FOTC.  The website is financed and run by FOTC and access is free to everyone else.  There is no membership fee and you do not currently have to be a member of FOTC to use the site.
FOTC SUPPLEMENTARY SCHOOL
EMS Tutoring, Milton Keynes, is the educational arm of FOTC.  The supplementary school provides superb one to one tutoring assistance, helping students pass exams and significantly improving their academic grades in 11plus, KS2 to GCSE 'A' level, English, Maths and Science. EMS Tutoring helps students from the local schools and have an excellent record of its students obtaining outstanding results in 11 plus & GCSE A' level, English, Maths and Science. Meet an FOTC Member
Carlston Medford was born and raised on the Island of Barbados.   He is a talented musician, NLP Practitioner, Hosts a weekly Radio Show on mental health matters, and he recently became a best selling co author of The Warrior Wellbeing Toolkit.  Carlston has been involved in setting up and working on many of our projects.  FOTC are very proud to have him serving on our Committee. 
Current, and Future Events 
  • New ventures for 2020.  We are setting up FOTC Young Persons group.  WATCH THIS SPACE
  • Membership Fees.  We have reviewed and set out the revised membership fees which can be found on our website together with information on the work we do and the benefits of becoming a member. 
  • FOTC Health Forum - We will be running two Health Forums in 2020, the first of which will be on Sickle Cell Anaemia.  MORE TO COME
